My first tank

I have had freshwater fish in the past. This is my first attempt at saltwater. I have a 26 gallon bow front tank. I hope to get an anemone soon and eventually some coral. First I need to get the right lighting. So what does everyone think. I am currently battling brown algae on the glass so the picture isn't perfect...

Dude the tang police are going to jump all over you. A yellow tang needs plenty of space and at least 4 feet of swimming space ..... I like hte aqua scape but would highly recommend removing the tang!

I agree with overanalyzer, the tang needs plenty of space to graze or it will deteriorate (we need spell check on this thing) quickly. Also, my understanding of anemones is they need a fairly mature tank, bare minimum 6 mo. with good parameters. I love your maroon clown, I had one once, it was the coolest fish. Good luck.

 Yeah, I know about the Tang. The guy at the petstore sold it to my father, assuring him that it would be o.k. in a 26 gallon tank b/c it was small. I plan on getting a 100g tank before the end of the year. I will move him there as soon as possible.

I have a 30g and have a lawnmower blenny and a mated pair of maroon clowns and I think that I have too much in my tank when it comes to fish, so I would try to keep maroons out of a smaller tank because mine use to swim all over the tank, but now my toadstool is hosting them and they stay around it. As for the Yellow Tang...as long as you are about to move it then that is fine, but I have seen yellow tangs waste away in 55gallon tangs with not enough grazzing area...I understand why you have one because they are some of the best looking fish IMO.

I tried and Failed with tangs in my 39 gallon. No more until i have at LEAST a 55...i think that might be too small. I do know someone who has had success in a 75 gallon with a sailfin and a yellow....

a 75 with a sailfin and a yellow - that is still a pretty big bioload ... you need ot make sure you have a fair amount of filtration because tangs are veggie eaters and those veggie remains act the same as meat remains in terms of building nitrates .... though I think the veggie remains take a little longer to build to critical mass (so to speak).
a lot goes into keeping tangs other than just pure tank size!!

overanalyzer:
1. Its not my tank, so dont call the tang police on me!
2. He checks his nitrogen religiously (at least once a week) and its never spiked.
3. They have been in there since January, and never been sick. Hes got 70+ lbs live rock, a wet dry and a lifguard system: chemical mechanical and a UV sterilizer.
I'm niether defending nor supporting his fish keeping methods, I just stated some facts!

Like I said a lot more goes into it other than tank size .... The filtration sounds really competent for handling the fish .... especially the UV to help keep the water clear of parasites and other gunk.
I don't generally rant about tangs too much but anytime they get mentioned in the Nano section (or pictured here) I tend to bring up the needs ....
