is there a tank water cooling system? my light heats the tank to 80-82 degrees, i want 78 degrees. Some peeps have told me to put a fan over the tank and blow air across the surface of the water, but i have heard that creates a lot of evaporation. Please help me.

hey man, i did the fan, it worked well on my 92 maybe a gallon more a day or you can turn your lights on for less time maybe about a total of 6-7 hours

calm down ...it is not that hot...i have my tank 78-80 so 82 is not boiling......it is commendable that you are worried about having a perfect temperature for your fish,,,that means you care
.......ask and ask alot on here ..you will soon find out that this hobby is awesome....and the most rewarding part is to kick back and watch the serenity of the reef

if you don't want to do the fan thing and money doesn't matter then you could get a chiller for your tank.

Some of the "big" reef books I've read said it's actually better to have your tank at 80-82, rather than 78, so I think you are fine. My tank always runs around 81, give or take a degree. I would start to worry if you start to go up to 84, that would be the time to bring in the fans or chiller.
But, even still, some people have there tank that high. Just be consistent, whatever temp you decide to keep it at and you will be fine.

i know, but the problem is in the morning it is 78 then it goes to 82 by the end of the day, cools overnight, and repeats. I think i will get a small fan

Or do what I did and set you heater to 80, that way it won't fluctuate so much.
A fan will also work.

Yea, 82 is not to hot. There are many reef areas that are hotter than 82 in the world. I would say 78-82 is an average temp. I run mine at 79-80, and in the hot summer my tank might rise to 81-82. It's no big deal, especially if you're worried about an eye sore with a fan on your tank.

Check out JBJ Arctica Titanium Chillers. They are bit pricey. When you find out how much they cost you'll just try out fans first.

my reef tank get up to 83 sometimes but my fans cool it down without running my chiller. 82 is fine.

I bought a chiller for my 24 gallon in my tiny apatment, because If I do not run the air all summer it gets above 84 in my tank, and it rapes me to run the AC. THER ARE PLENTY OF WAYS TO LOWER YOUR TANKTMEP.
GOOD LUCK

78-82 is ok, as long as its stable.
thats the key.
maybe in the summer, you might need to run it warmer, beucase the temp might rise during the day, but in the winter, you could always back it down cooler.
i run my tank at 77.

My tanks run at 78 during the night up to 82 during the day. Just got back from 9 days in Jamaica, guess what The Temp Fluctates 3 degrees in the natural ocean from Day to Night. It is perfectally alright for your tank to flucate a few degrees. One secret to keeping my tank cool, I put my ceiling fan that is in the room on reverse, and it sends cool air across the back of the tank. I proved it to my wife that the ceiling fan actually keeps our tank 2 degrees cooler. With out the ceiling fan on, the tank can get up to 84 and still everyone is fine.

I bought a small fan and it fits perfectly behind my tank and just blows on the light and on top the glass. No water evap and temp down by 4 degrees. My advice is start cheap and work your way up. Buy a five dollar fan vs. $300 chiller?

I've had my tank at 82 degrees for 5 years. That's no problem at all...
"Boiling to death"? Hardly.
