MY kinda new STINGRAY

Hey guys i got a cali. stingray about 3 weeks ago and he is awesome!!!!!

He eats very well and is pretty neat looking.
but i do have a few questions:
1---He alaways pops up and down the side of the glass
2---My eel had been hiding alot in the rock work and i thought not much of it and then i got the stingray and 3 days later my eel was dead with a bite mark which looked like my stingrays mouth but bigger

Is this guy in your 55? If so, please bring him back to the store. He is all over the glass because he has nowhere else to go.

Oh wow! Your eel got eaten cause he didnt have anywhere to go in that small of a tank with that stingray. Like the OP said he has nowhere else to go so he trys the glass. I bet hes trying to get out cause of stress.

No he is in a 150 and he only rooms with a small grouper.
I dont think he is crapped because he will go all over the tank and then after i feed him really well he pops up and down as if he is happy.-Plus the place i bought him from had him in a 10 gall.

No my fish have plenty of space plus i think something already happened to my eel because 3 days before that he didnt come out of his live rock or eat

The place you bought him from only had him in a 10 gallon because they knew they were going to sell him and be selling him fast.
How long have you been into SW? I am fairly new to this and even I know better than this - take him back - for his sake.

No my stingray has plenty of room(150) and is in much better hands than at the fish store because the people there sold one man a stingray knowing he had bad water quality then the next day he came in and said the stingray died and they again let him buy another knowing he had bad water quality

This is a CCP from another source...
They do not have teeth but rather use a system of two bony plates, used to crush shells of crabs, clams and prawns, which are their primary food staple. They will accept small fish, brine and mysis shrimp and formula foods in captivity however. There really is nothing that they will not eat as long as it is cut up enough to fit in their mouths.
There are a couple nice choices for those wishing to keep a stingray in a larger fish only tank set-up. Many rays grow to large to be housed in any tank set-up other than evident at a public aquarium, but there are a few that make an ideal choice for a 100 gallon tank or larger. These being the California Round, Yellow Tail, and the Blue-Spotted ray.
Having read/posted that, Expect to end up finding a new home for the little guy. He may be ok, but then again he might already be too big even for a 150gal. simply because they do neea A LOT of swimming room. They aren't like a typical fish where we can go by inches per. gallon, they are accustomed to swimming long distances. So IMO unless we're talking about a 5-6inch ray, I'd start looking into finding him a much larger home. He may do great, but he may need more room. The little guy will jump out of the water and that just wouldn't be good at any cost.

Is the eel alive? Let's be honest here, common eels are hard to kill. Rays are sensitive to water quality, and most certainly need room. He will outgrow that tank way before you realize that he has outgrown it. You won't notice until he has irreversible health issues. That is how rays are. You start them in the right tank or not at all. I am sorry that I have to be blunt with you, but it is true.

Can you give us a full tank shot? You might have too much rock in there which would decrease its swimming space.

Yes rays are very sensitive to water quality so always watch the tank's parameters and espically the nitrates.
The ray will outgrow the tank, but it depends on how big it is currently. Their growth rate is slower than sharks so just be prepared to upgrade in a couple years.

Not accurate. Rays need to have an open area of swimming room. This guy is already trying to bury itself and is climbing the tank walls. 150 gallons is not suitable. I don't want to be a pain about this, but these guys need LOTS of room. He may be alright for a little while, but certainly not a year or more.

you have to make sure that u dont mix those fish with any othe or the fish would die because the stingray could be an agresive fish!!!

I dont know a thing about keeping rays, but this post makes no sense. You take a clip of information from some article that says California rays can be housed in 100+ gallons of water, and then say "expect to end up finding a new home for him". The OP said he had a Cali Ray and a 150 gallon tank... What gives?

Yes I agree but I don't think he said how big his ray is which is the deciding factor on how long he can keep it.

I think the point is being missed here...this guy got the stingray before doing any research about them and their needs, let alone the needs of any of his other fish living with a ray. He also stated that the lfs had him in a 10 gallon so he should be ok in his tank. The Ray is going nuts in his tank - why do you think he is climbing the walls?!
