Thats a little much most of the stores around me average from 3.99-6.99 per pound. I get mine for 2.00 a pound but I know someone who harvests it.

live rock around here is 8 bucks a pound. and the other lfs that i use to shop at charges 12.99/lb if it has purple on it(coraline growth) i talked to the department manager about it and asked him about it and he tried to tell me that it is something extra special to have that on it thats why he charges more so i played dum with him and started asking about the corals he had under t12 lighting he tried to explain to me that corals need great water condition not lighting. thats when i ripped into him....

Theres a place near me that sells it for 14.99 Lb, and 20 minutes from it theres a place for 7.99 lb...i guess its more about quality then quantity.

I mean there were some nice pieces. it was prob the best live rock that I have ever seen, but 14.99, id rather have a tank of gas than 2 pounds.

I believe its not about quality or quanity its about owners being greedy and ripping off customers lol 14.99 for a pound of live rock is just ridiculous at the very very most I have ever seen live rock is 7.99 theres a website I can give you where you can by some of the best carribean live rock. Regular coraline rock which looks very nice with purples oranges and stuff is 1.99 a pound and premium rock with sponges corals etc etc is 2.99 a pound. I GUARANTEE you you will love this rock its cheap because they own a lease from the state of florida thats allows them to get rock from an area of 4 square miles in the gulf so your eliminating the middle man the fish store and buying it direct
Email me at jordan_813@yahoo.com if you want the info

Get on craigslist for your local area and check each day until you find that guy thats tired of the hobby and wants to sell his tank, offer him 3 bucks a pound. THats the way to go. I just got 30 pounds from guy that had about 200 pounds in a 400 gallon.
The rock was loaded with coraline, copepods, those little star fish are in every crevice.

That is not ridiculous for live rock but it is a little on the high end for sure. I have paid 12/lb for a rock before but it is the nicest one in my tank. Most of the time I see rock for sale for around 7/lb or so. You can definitely find it cheaper though. I know someone who sells it for around 3 but my tank was already full when I met him so......there you go...

a typical price is $6.99/lb up to 25lbs, $5.99/lb for 25-49lbs and $4.99/lb for 50lb and up. this is what all the "chain" petstores charge around here. $9.99 isn't unheard of by I just wont pay that. At that price even with shipping its just cheaper to get it from a reputable online source.
On a side note is that coralife on a big liverock bin stuffed with rock a joke or something. they should either a) use a MUCH better and bigger skimmer or b) use much larger water volume to cure that much rock. Perhaps the bin is linked to another system.

LS, where are you?
Those down South (FL, Southern CA) can always get it cheapest.
Those of us in the states that get snow usually have to pay more.
BigTank's advice is good, but can backfire. You can't be sure there isn't something 'wrong' with the LR, such as an infestation, or bad trace elements (copper) that have seeped in.
I paid 6.99 the last time I bought a tank's worth of rock, and I'm in the NY area, for reference.
