Thats pretty cool, I did the same thing with my Skilter Filter.
Not getting a response from my Nitrates but the Cheato has doubled in size.

awesome. I love the little hang on filter refugium mods. What size tank is it going on? Just fish or you doing corals as well?

coolguy-has it been working good for ya?
Meleerock-its going on my 40g. i already have some corals in my tank i am getting to mainly help with phosphates and a place for some pods. its also added filtration for the tank and that help.

Looks sweet. I did something very similar with my old HOB filter before I switched to a sump setup. It works great for me. Only advice I have is to make sure you pull the ball of chaeto out occationally like during a water change and rinse it in the old tank water to remove debris.

thanks for the advice. i figures i would trim when necessary and rinse once a week. this is my first thing of cheato and any advice will be greatly appriciated.

so wait, i have one of these at home, do you just clean it out, put some sand in, and a ball of cheato, along with a light and you have a refegium? its just that easy? also for people who have these, what size tank is it, do you think it would make much of a difference if i put this in my 50 gallon?

should i put miracle mud or anything at the bottom of the filter. like a real small layer or no just leave it with small piece of lr and cheato.

i did kind of the same thing but with a whisper filter and bought a small light from walmart that fits perfectly on top. it took a while but i noticed my nitrates go down from 20ppm to 10ppm, and the chaeto is growing

in the whisper filter it's only chaeto, so you don't need anything else, you can pur lr rubble if you want to, but i didnt

how much is that kind of light? what wattage is it? and where did you get one

i would take it out and paint it black so the light won't sneak through and to your tank (unless of course you have something covering the glass to the tank). also, pods love having rubble rock to crawl in so i'd at least put some in there.

How do you get the pods to stay in the filter and not all flow out. For that matter how do you get the pods in there in the first place?

rattler-light cost $20 and i got from a LFS. not sure on the watts. have to look up.
GrouperGenius-i will try to post pics tomorrow. i just got bac from a trip and still got to get the cheato. i have it set up tho. i don't know bout the 150 bio-wheel. i doubt its to much and if it is just turn the flow done. cheato needs a high flow rate. just keep working with the filter until it works for ya.
BRIAND7878-the pods just show'd up in my tank one day. i am assumeing hitchhiker format. how i am keeping them in is i put a small piece of lr in the hob.

heres an update. i got my lil piece of lr in and some sort of stuff. my lfs gave it to me while they order me some cheato. its like small pieces of lettuce. second pic is from in front of my refugium. i am thinking of putting a really, really thin layer of snad at the bottom. all in all the refugium is still not finished. here it is for now.

if your DT isnt a DSB then you could do a DSB in the fuge. get some rubble rock, or live rock, without coral and break it up with a hammer to make rubble rock.
but i would go with a DSB in there and your rock, and cheato. should work out very easy. crazy that all you have to do with those filters is just glue some egg crate and your done. walla you got a hang on fuge. with a light of course.
