The setup looks cool! Yeah sounds like a great idea for me also. One question. Where do you get the cheato from? My LFS says its hard to get. I have been doing water changes with RO/DI water from Walmart and I tested it for nitrates and it was 0! Mine are still high in the tank. Don't even ask how high
So I am using that till my 75 gallons nitrates will go down. Thanks,

The setup looks cool! Yeah sounds like a great idea for me also. One question. Where do you get the cheato from? My LFS says its hard to get. I have been doing water changes with RO/DI water from Walmart and I tested it for nitrates and it was 0! Mine are still high in the tank. Don't even ask how high

YOu can get some from this website. People sell it on here. or just look around for it. Usually your lfs can get it in. Cheato is also good for phosphates to. your foods usually have phosphates in them and thats why i am setting up the refugium.

rbrockm1...i setup the same one u r sitting up.down to a tee same filter,lr rubble and chaeto. i didn't need the light because i have a 250w mh over my 20h so it will get plenty of light.
i had never thought about it till i seen this thread. i hope you don't mind me hijacking your idea. i had everything just never put 2&2 together.

Could i do this with my biowheel filter. I just have it running carbon, but i'd rather do something like this, what would i need?

yeah you could do this with your biowheel but you don't need the biowheel part. get your self light, some cheato, and a piece of lr, and piece of egg crate for the front (like in one of my pics). should be ready to go.
PS. i am not sure how the water flows through your biowheel filter so you might have to accomidate to it but should be fine.

here is a new update. i put a new gate in to up prevent back flow and better circulation. i also lowered the front gate a lil bit. i am also going to put a lil flap where the water flows out to help direct the current evenly. Thats all the updates for now, when i start to put the sand and everything in i will give another update. first two are of the new flow gate and third is of the lowered gate. any suggestion or ideas are always welcomed.
