Nice! I'm gonna do the same but get the aquaclear 70. I will try and get some cheato this weekend some lr and some sand.

that sounds good triggernut. i would have done the 70 but i couldn't afford it and get everything else. it was a $20 diff between the two, the 50's were on sale.

Yeah I know what you mean$$$$$$$$

I'm in like 4 grand by now in 2 years between tank,lights, fish rock, supplies etc. Oh well you only live once. Nice idea BTW.

It looks like you just took out the filter basket, took it apart and siliconed it in. Brilliant!

I have a Aquaclear 110/500. It's the bigger model. Do you think it will be a big enough fuge for my 72g? Hell, it only takes about 10 minutes to make.

hey HOGS doesnt matter how big it is if you dont have a fuge now. so the model you got being the biggest would be a great addition to your tank, if you dont have a fuge.

Since I was going to do what you did. I was wondering one thing since I ran into the problem. when I put the sand in the filter area and then started it the sand was sucked into the motor and it stopped. I was just wondering how you are stopping it from doing that?

Good question Scuba. Do you use the carbon in there and what type of silicone do you get the GE?

Thats what the first overflow is for... The second is to keep the cheato in the filter.

I did the same thing with a 110 a while back and it worked great. Was actually thinking about setting it up on my aggressives tank. Great job with the pics, wish there had been ones that clear back when I made mine.

Hogs-i think the 110 will be perfect. somethings better than nothing. right.
ScubaGuy-i haven't ran into that problem yet cause i haven't put sand in it. i was thinking bout crushing up a rock and useing that as my base. not sure yet tho. i will have to think out this problem and get back to ya. sorry. i have a few ideas i will give them a try sometime tonight or this weekend.
Triggernut-no i am not planning on useing the carbon in it. the silicon that i used was the aqua-tech aquarium sealant from wal-mart or lfs.
i will show you everything else that i do to it as i progress. i want to get it up and running this weekend. i going to the lfs to see if they got my cheato in.

well i went to lfs and guess what they forgot to order some cheato for me again. they said they will try to get it next week. If they don't get by next week i am just going to order from someone on here. only bad thing is they were only going to charge me $10 for a hand full(cause they forgot to order again) so i am hoping they will get it in. it would say me some $$$$$$ green.

Sorry about the cheato. I know everything costs money. I went and looked at the 70 and the 110 and said ah what the heck spend the 15 more and get the bigger one. I got the 110 this weekend and I must say what a power filter! Man those 3 filters in one and the size is great also. I got it for 60 bucks with my 10% off at my LFS. I told them to order cheato fror me and they said yeah ok it will be in Wednesday. I have it running with the regular stuff to break it in. I have to look at your pics to see how to modify it so the sand bed, and cheato won't be sucked in and all. I am running it at the slow setting right now. I will send pics when I get it modified. Keep us posted!!!!!!!!! on your setup.

$60 for a 110. lucky. thats the one i wanted but it was i think $80 or more and i said no way. let me know how it turns out for ya.
