Hi all, wanted to start a log in my new journey of a 90g reef system. Just got the tank today, got a awesome deal off of craigslist. I have had a 30g fowlr set up for awhile my 2 year old twins love it so I thought I'd treat them and myself to a larger system so we can enjoy some larger fish and corals. I moved a little to fast with the 30g so Im going to be very slow and carefull with new set up. Tank is in my family room, I have created a filter room in the basement under the tank for the sump and refugium. I have bout 30gallons in the tank so far waiting for ro to make more water..
Heres some pics of what I have so far. Filter system is not complete yet. Any questions or suggestions please chime in. Going to be looking for lots of advice from u guys

I am planing to turn my 30g into QT tank when everything is switched over, I am gonna move live rock over, should I keep some in QT or just run it with the live sand?

IMO move it all over to the 90. Unless it will just be a QT/holding tank and not a hospital tank where you plan to use any meds in. You wouldn't be able to dose any meds with the live rock.

Yeah I agree will move everything...Need to keep sand in though right?
my plans with filter system:
sump with bio balls will also house refugium, water will dump into bioballs flow to secound chamber (where return pump is now) this will be refugium, I will then drill hole for bulkhead in refugium which will drain into 20g glass tank that came with this set up. I will divide 20g into two chambers 1st for skimmer then bubble trap then into return pump..
Does this sound OK....my experience so far has only been with hob filters, been doin tons of research on sumps and refugiums, want to do this right...huge plus for me is my filter room gives me unlimited space and no noisey equiptment in living room

wanted to show some future projects, been finishing my basment off and on for bout 4 years now.
this is a 120g that is gonna be in the wall...my idea was to have it in a corner wall, think thats gonna look awesome, many people make them look like picture frames which is cool, but i thought this would be different..
put in a shot of my future bar (every guy has to have a bar)

full shot of filter room will be located behind bathroom, original plan was just for a closet there but I feel this is a better use for the space, gonna build shelves to house 20g sump and also QT

What do u recommend for background on the 90g, my wife thinks black cause the whole set up is black but I was thinkin bright blue....cant decide

Well, I used to have blue on my 75 and then changed it to black. I used the background so I can change it back and forth. I like both really. Its really cheap too (around 2 bucks)so you could buy some and then see which one you like the best.

update:
Tank is now set up for two days

filter system is complete and working great
Put a fresh coat of black paint on stand and it looks brand new
let me know what u guys think of my rock display, all in all I think Im pretty happy
funny thing with the damsel in there, I did not want him in there yet I was removing live rock from 30g and I took out large 12# piece I was shackin it real good to get all the hermit crabs and snails off and he was hidden in one of the caves. I put the rock in 90g and soon as it was submereged he flew out it scared the crap out of me..oh well hope he makes it through the cycle, been two days and he looks great we"ll see. My two clowns and CUC are gonna hang in the 30g until cycle is up

Your aquascaping looks very nice.
You did a really good job with it. Your damsel should be ok. This rock come from your established tank...so you should be able to put those little clowns in real soon.
