My new ride!

For the first time in 30 years, I don't have a sports car. Got rid of the Corvette and bought a new Ford F-150 Supercrew Platinum with the twin turbo V-6. I missed the Vette for about 10 minutes.

F-150 Platinum.... The Lincoln Mark LT lives!!!
I think the EcoBoost falls a bit short in the car applications so far, but it's the real deal in the F-150. High 6's 0-60. It'll even outrun the monster 6.2.
Hoping for a bit more then 3k-5k miles out of those rear Scorpions?

It might outrun my 6.2 but can it pull a 13K pound trailer? LOL! Nice ride.

Nice truck. That turbo V6 is supposed to be a great performer and still get good mileage. I think you'll see GM and Chrysler do the same thing shortly.

Cool Ride! I've always loved my f-150, it rides like a caddy, and can haul MUCH BIGGER fish tanks than the GT500 shelby cobra I used to have.

This engine is incredible! In a review and from one of the boards, they already put a supercrew with the ecoboost on a 1/4 mile strip and turned 14.8 with it. Not bad for a 7000 lb truck.

The ecoboost is the only other engine option offered by ford that will pull the same as the 6.2 in the Fl150 of 11,300 lbs. I didn't get the max tow package because I didn't want the dumbo manual mirrors and don't need to haul that much.

WHat are the numbers on the V6? The 8 is 385 with 400 pounds of torque. Heck my 7.3 was only 250 and 525 with no programming. This 6.2 is a sweet setup. Not sure what it's max towing would be in F450. I haven't pulled anything with it yet but it feels pretty torquey.

  • The 2011 Ford F-150 equipped with all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost™ truck engine is officially EPA-certified at 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway
Outstanding fuel economy complements the best-in-class 420 lb.-ft. of torque this engine produces to enable best-in-class conventional towing of 11,300 pounds and best-in-class payload of 3,060 pounds

The HP is 365. That 420 lbs of torque is at 2500 RPM also. I pulled two motorcycle to the track with it with the cargo bed and rear seating section completely full of race equipment and got 17 mpg at 75 mph. If I slowed it down to 60, I was getting over 19 but 60 makes me want to jump out of the truck.

Those V6 Mustangs are stupid fast too. Be interesting to see if this lump finds it's way into those. 420 lbs of torquey poo in one of those would be a good time.

It took a while to convince me as I have always owned sports cars with big V-8s and I didn't give this a second look at first. My friend I ride track with is a Ford Mechanic and told me I really needed to look at it and told me about the torture test they did on this engine. After some research I was sold and after driving it, it is really amazing and I have not really tried it out yet as I'm still breaking it in. These could very well be the engines of the future for a vehicle that needs power and descent gas mileage.
If interested, check out the torture test.

Yeah, Ford said for 2012 it would replace the 5L as the base GT engine.
It will be very interesting to see what Ford does with the Mustang and the EcoBoost. As it stands now, there still is decent performance gain when you go from the 3.7L V6, to stepping up to the 5.0L... An EcoBoost'ed Mustang should outperform a 5.0L Mustang. The EcoBoost in the Taurus SHO did marginally underperform. You got lower end V8 performance, with V8 gas mileage (to spite their claim), and a V8 premium price, but only got 6 cylinders in return... I suspect there likely was limit on output with the Taurus's FWD-based tranny.... In the Mustang though, output should be up a lot, more like what the F-150 has, probably trading some torque for HP. Maybe the Hi=Po 5.0L in the Boss 302 will become the standard 5.0L.
BTW, I can't be the only one wishing for an EcoBoost'ed V8? (in any car/truck). 500hp/600lb.ft. Now that would be fun!

Yea, I've been-in/driven a couple Escalades/Denali's with GM's 6.2 and they will also knock off 14.8's stock;

But with any large truck, you can't deny physics, and around the first turn, you'll soon realize exactly what you're in. I suppose having a track-prepped motorcycle, may have a lot to with calming that "go fast" urge

Yeah, the track bike takes care of any speed needs I may have and you are correct. When you turn, it's still a truck but the electric steering is pretty cool. Almost like it steers itself. It steers almost too easy.

I didn't waste any time putting it to use either.

My buddies Suzuki broken into two pieces. Well, actually 100 pieces, but broken in half. Never saw one brought in with a front end loader before.
