My new skimmer has finally kicked in!!

This is my second attempt at putting a skimmer into my tank. The first one I put in was a Visi-jet PS which was a full submersible skimmer, I was NOT happy with that skimmer and took it out after it spit micro bubbles ALL over my tank, rearranged my sand, etc., etc. Sorry for those of you that have one and are happy with it, just did NOT work out for me.
I ended up getting on the famous auction site one evening and came across a brand new, in the box HOB Odyssea pro pack skimmer...took my chances because it looked like more of what I was looking for for my tank. It took me 3, count 'em, 3 weeks to get the nerve to put my new skimmer in. I had been doing 10% water changes every single week, and it came to the point where I was doing a change and I thought the water was really stinky!! That was when I decided that it was time to test drive my new skimmer...
Well, I put my skimmer in last week and NEVER looked back!! A little adjustment here and there, some advice from this site. I was told that it would take a 1-3 weeks to break in. Mine's been in now for just over a week and it's producing "cookie" smelling stuff as I speak. I'm VERY happy!!!
Thanks for everyone's assistance with this whole thing...
I am one...:happyfish!!! Lisa

Xjayx,
When did you get the skimmer? Is it doing the same thing that I described? How long has it been in the tank, and lastly what is it doing?

sweet, i just put my LR in today and the cloudyness from my live sand is finally going down. and i used my last 5 gallon bucket of saltwater to clean the rock, ( i left some room in the tank for the water to go up with the LR + LS) you recommend I keep it off during the cycle? My filtration system is just a wavemaker, LR, LS, and the AquaC, so without the AquaC at the moment I wouldn't have anything to take out the cloudniess really. So I think after I get more water tommrow I'll put a carbon filter in the extra bubble eliminator/ skimmer accesory I bought. That should help out.

Its always great when something goes good for ya but in this hobby dotn worrie there will be another bad one not far behind ;) lol. I use a jebo 180 it took around 2 or 3 weeks to start working and now it is self containing. I dont even touch the nozzle anymore. Its so quite also my filter is louder than it is "in fact im thinking of swapping filters" Next time im doing a cleanout on my skimmer I will take a pic of the stuff it pulls out its so dark its black and when you dump it, it smells like rotting meat oh man make a throw up lol.

Just did my first water change since the addition of the skimmer. Everything went really well, as usual. But then I didn't really expect to "spook" my skimmer or anything
When I do my changes, I turn off all equipment to clean in the change out water, and after adding the new water I turn it all back on again (obviously). My skimmer just took over where it left off...no bubbles, either...I'm really happy with it!!
My fish are all so used to me going in to clean their house, and I swear Cookie and Bozo (my clowns) actually fell asleep for a while. What fun!!

I hope that someone is still viewing this thread that can help me with this. On another thread that I can't find anymore (did a search), someone has a HOB skimmer very similar to mine, and he said that he removed the biofilter. I take it that's the stuff that is crammed into the output side of my skimmer. What exactly is the function of that, and what would be the benefit of removing it? Just want to make sure I'm doing this the right way.
Any responses appreciated.

F1shman,
I've been doing quite a bit of research on skimmers, here and elsewhere, and the skimmer that I have works and looks most like the one that you have and the CPR HOB pro (not sure of the name of that one). I'm really happy with it at this point. After my water change, it was SO easy to get the settings correct again, and I swear I've got even LESS bubbles than before, and I didn't have that many to worry about after a week.
Sorry, I just can't believe it's working SO great!!
Still wondering about the biofilter though...really hope to get some answers on that.
