because with crused coral ur uneaten food will get stuch and hidden which will be a problem and with sand they stay on top till the clean up crew arrives,...and if im not mistaken i remember reading somewhere the clean up crew or something like that likes sand better lol dont quote me on that

ditto on the sailfin they can get way to big for most aquariums. the yellow will be OK in a 55gal but a 75 or 90 would be better long term

LOL his sailfin is small, it's not going to die anytime soon, but it could eventually. You'll be fine keeping it for at least another year, but IT WILL EVENTUALLY OUTGROW the tank and get severely stressed, so don't get attached (or start saving up for a bigger tank). Agreed they should not both be in a 55 though (yellow should be fine). Sailfin is fine in a 4x2x2 120 gallon - the width makes up for a lot length. Like everyone else said, I'd just get it over with now and take the sailfin back for credit and get something else (not a tang). You'll have much happier tank inhabitants.

jhstone, heres what i did so far with my 55G. Im new too, but its prolly a better way.. how long did u have ur tank up?
55G
80lbs of LR
50lbs of LS
HOB Filter 300GPH (got carbon in it)
Seaclone 100 skimmer
300GPH Powerhead x2
its in 2 weeks cycle. my ammonia, nitrite and nitrates are skyrocketin..
i would suggest you return one large fish for some more LR or maybe LS. it will help in the long run..
my 2 cents..
