Do the same questions about cycling, sand, live rock, Tangs in nano tanks, and what fish should I add next questions get old? Sure; but all you need to do is move past em...

for example - do a search for "sun coral feeding" the search cuts out "sun" (because its too short) so youre really searching for "coral feeding". and you end up with about 1 million posts like:
- my tang has ich, ive got blah blah blah in the tank, and im feeding twice a day
- you have to do hypo
- will that hurt my brain coral?

also, a lot of people (myself included) are hesitant to post on old threads, like from 2003, so even if they do find some info, they may not get all of their questions answered.
i say that if you have a question, at least try the search first, but if you need more info, dont hesitate to post a question asking, that what this board is for!

Agreed. The board is for people to ask questions. If you're tired of a question then don't look or answer it.
One thing SaltwaterFish.com has done which is a start, is make stickys on threads about some starting points on certian issues.
On another forum, I've found a very useful tool. What they do is make captive care sheets, and articles about certian issues or subjects. The forum is a specialized forum, and only deals with a certain type of saltwater fish, so the captive care sheets are only on that type of fish and different species of it.
But instead of having to ask questions about what's the minimual tank size, requirements, growth rate and max size, etc., they can just look under a certain section that is only for care sheets.
This forum hasn't done that, and seems to be more focused on answering people's questions by people who have had expierence.
If you realy got a problem with it, talk with the administrators about setting up some kind of articles.

I don't like the post count thing. It gives some people power, and others get the short end of the stick due to their post count.

Wouldnt you rather some ask if they can put a tang in a 24g than going out and buying the tang and putting it in?

I would, but in my opinion if their was a care sheet on different kind of fishes, then they could just look and find the minimual tank size and other helpful information.

i find it ironic that you just joined 6 mos ago and youre making this post...
did you just start asking questions that you thought were original or did you actually surf old posts and the Archives & FAQ's???

Really? Most of mine are "nice pics!". Do you mind if I use that? I bet I'd be able to at least double my post count...

everyone is a noob... this forum is for learning, giving ideas, posting pix and telling stories of your goods n bads in the hobby... trust me theres nothing like answering a question for a noob about something youve just learned... i remember when i actually explaind the dif between PH and pH!!! man i was stoked... now i leave that to the noobs that just learned cuz sometimes it does start great dialogs...

i think newcomers should be limited to certain threads, using the post count. I like the post count because i know i can trust them. I person with 5,000 post probably knows more than a person with 10.

thats what i'm trying to say. I am not saying dont post your question. i'm saying that you should atleast make an effort to learn before you ask.
Like red slime threads. Going to the archives, red slime is right on page 1 as a sticky. Loads of info given to the person very fast. It's actually more beneficial to a person if they search first.
