I love "The Volcano Tank".
It is something my husband and I have discussed doing when we move into our new house as well as a "local waters" tank.
I can't keep track of your tanks anymore, LOL
Definitely following along.

I say yes to the volcano tank! Looks really awesome! =D I love the picture of the little crab coming out to sit on the volcano! FOLLOWING!

Nope don't see any changes needed. Gonna have to be careful with the 8 bulb TEK over a 10" deep tank though.
Coral bleaching, that will be some intense lighting over a shallow reef. Light acclimation will be important here me thinks.
thats what i was thinking also! you might have to raise the lights up quite a bit, therefor making it pointless to have that much light. but if you already have the fixture from your previous tank might as well make it work. also what are you guys talking about volcano tank?

Carlos, you never stop! HAHA. You're deffinatly right on giving up some of the tanks and keeping one if your getting into sciences. I'm already on that path and it is hard to find time to maintain the tanks! I'm acctually studying for an animal biology exam at the moment, and damn there is alot of memorization and some prety complicated words haha.
I say you do the volcano since IMO that makes the tank! Good luck with it! Is there some sort of pump in the middle of the volcano to keep the LR moist so the bacteria stays alive? If not you should look into trying to set that up with some sort of pond pump, that would be pretty cool.

Man I looove that tank, I had bought a shallow tank with that as my inspiration but with 4 dogs decided against having an open top like that.
Are you going to make the rock yourself so you can get the volcano look? That would be sweet and whatever kinda crabs he has that come out of the water sometimes you must get. You said your going to do the middle overflow can you also make the return come back through there and flow down the rock?

as for the pump i was gonna have a mag 7 but my boss said a mag 9.5 should work fine so we will see. it gonna have 3 hoses. one on the front and one on each side of the volcano.

yea the rock we are using is haitian rock, since its flat it will fit just right. we were gonna do a overflow but we are still deciding on it or not. if we do the overflow then the return and drain will be in the same overflow :)

I was so worried that there was not going to be a picture yet

Do the volcano tank but leave the lava out. Fire hazard and all.

So let me ask you this. Everyone I talk to says dont ever make your own tank. I mean why? I know that most would not want to attempt but all these tanks are hand made and I have met a lot of people in my life and some people that we trust with more important things are not as bright as we think. So the question is was it a "trick" to put together. Did he show you the magical step that only the tank artist know? Or is it silicone and glass???
I am certain that there is an art to it and I dont want to take anything away from it just have been interested in building a tank. Probably shouldn't but I shouldn't have done a lot of things that I have done.

This should be neat, I'll follow along.
I have the 4" Reef Octopus skimmer, and I like it. It works well. Very easy to use.

i was thinking the same thing! i was looking online just last night for prices on how much it would be to build my own acrylic tank and it was about 10-15% of what they were charging for a new pre built tank. you dont have to have any braces to hold all that water? your tank is waht 90 gal? what if you were to build something 3 times that size. idk if i would trust it if i built it myself!!! lol
