Looks good! Are the pieces acrylic or glass? When I upgrade to a larger tank I think I want to build my own sump too!

That is 1/4" glass that I used for the baffles in the sump. I have 2 local glass shops where I live and the glass was not that expensive. For the glass that I needed for the baffles it was only $25.00

wow, that's not too bad, I'm curious to see how much the whole thing will cost when you're done, compared to a premade unit. Seems like you can definitely customize your own more. How are the LFS's near you? I have to drive at least 45 min to one and over 1 1/2 hours to 2 others!

Yes it is not to bad at all.. I would say that with just the tank, baffles, and bubble trap that the Sump is going to cost me between $50 and $60 to make. That of course does not include the inner workings of the sump, ie: Pump, Plumbing, internal overflow, skimmer, Sand and Live rock for the Fuge. Yes and you can customize it the way you want when you DIY.
I only have a ***** and a Co-op that carries live animals that are close to me. If I wanted to go to a real LFS I would have to travel between 1 and 2 hours to get to one. That is why I have to order most of the stuff I get from online. I would say that most of my Live stock will come from buying online. The majority of it will come from SWF.com.

I thought the bubble trap consisted of the three baffles. What is the bubble trap with egg crate that you speak of?

Hi Scott, i read that you are thinking of the 12HF pump, I bought one for my 65 planted tank, it makes a lot of noise - I know they are only 40$ but you might want to considered something else, see what Corey has to say, you could use it but i think you might be a bit disappointed - just my 2 cents.

Its going to be a 4"X4" area in the sump where the water drains from the tank in to the skimmer area it has glass on the top and egg crate on the bottom of it.. I was told to add it to help cut down on micro bubbles in the skimmer section on the sump and also helps get all the gunk to the bottom of there also for the skimmer to pic up.. There is a sketch of the skimmer in my other thread...

I have never seen someone research so much and have so much patience as Scott does. I can't wait to see this tank up and running.

Well, BTLD there was someone that I talked to all those months ago that told me to do my research before I started the tank so that I would know all that I could about the hobby. I took that advice and used it to my advantage. I just wanted to make sure that I would do things right, and that I would get the best experience out of the hobby, and it would be enjoyable. I would again like to Thank You for that advice because it has helped me to gain the knowledge that I need to embark on this Journey and now I know it will be most enjoyable.
