wich tang is this?
I knew someone would ask me that question, I should have just not mentioned it. I will put it out there for all to see maybe I will get more thoughts on what others think about it. My most favorite tang that I want to get is the Powder Brown...
Personally, I don't think it would be a good idea.
Size wise, you could probably get away with it, of course it would require a little modification of your stocklist so that it wasn't too much of a strain on the bioload, BUT Acanthurus tangs tend to be very aggressive.
This being said, if you're set on this tang and do plan on upgrading, here would be my suggestion as I do believe you
could do it. Make it the last fish you add and try to find a small one, this way when you're ready to upgrade it won't be too big yet.
BTLD Yes I would Mod my stock list to include the Powder Brown into, it would also as you said and I have read would have to be the last fish added to the tank. I would try and find one that was small thinking 2". I know that tangs are a big bioload on the tank and I would def have to watch the parms close and be diligent about w/c's to compensate for this. I do plan on upgrading with 12 to 18 months to a 6' tank, when the 75 gal is all set I will be setting aside money that will not be touched for the upgrade.

From my experience they're not as fast of a growing tang as some others. My sailfin grew very fast, but any Acanthurus or Naso I've ever owned has grown very slow.

Forgot to mention about your stock list:
I would do one large, one small blenny, not two large two small, I think that might be too much.

I would not even still be thinking of the Powder Brown, but it is the one tang that I really want to own and really want to have in a tank. If it were the only fish I had in the tank with Corals I would be happy. I know that I can also add other fish in the tank to, and will have to mod and cut down the fish that I can have in the tank, but as long as I have the Powder Brown I am more than willing to do it...

Yes those are just the fish that I am looking at. Now with that what would be the max fish that I could have in the tank with the Powder Brown. From my Fish list what fish would you suggest would be the best fit in the tank?

Do a gold rimmed instead of a powder brown, gold rimmed I think are cooler and are from Hawaii
LOL I think the Powder Brown has more color to it than the gold rim the look like the same fish just one is black and from Hawaii and the other is brown and from the Indian Ocean. I do like them both, But am partial to the powder brown!!

Ya, makes sense, what is your fish list though?
These are the fish I am looking at:
2 X Ocellaris Clowns (1-Black and While and 1 Regular)
1 X Diamond Goby
1 X Flame Angel
1 X Tang (Looking at a Few)
1 X One Spot Foxface
1 X Bi Colored Blenny
1 X Tail Spot Blenny
1 X Lawnmower Blenny
1 X Starry Blenny
2 X Pajama Cardinal
1 X McCosker Wrasse
1 X Mandarin (after 6 to 8 months)
These are fish that I am looking at right now but it can change you know....
From this list if you were to add the Powder Brown Tang:
1 Powder Brown
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Flame Angel
1 Large Blenny (LMB or Starry)
1 Small Blenny (BiColor or TailSpot - I would go with the Tail Spot as they would not consume as much algae, and the tang will need some algae)
1 McCoskers Wrasse
1 Diamond Goby
1 mandarin
Of course, this is a heavily stocked list, but completely doable, especially if an upgrade will oneday be in the cards. It is a heavy bioload so I'd plan on very good maintenance and a strong CUC (lots of Nassarius snails!)

I have all the confidence in the world that Scott T will slowly and watch parameters and do this right. If done correctly, it can work. I have always kept heavily stocked tanks without much issue, it can be done, but it takes a lot more work. Scott T has done soooooooo much research, that I really have no problem telling him he can do it. I would never recommend this list to a new member of the board that hasn't done any research.

BTLD Thank you for the compliment and the confidence that I can achieve the list of fish that you have suggested from the list I provided.. I really like that fish list and think that I would also be able to have those fish in a tank.. That list I had posted here is just the fish that I have cut down from a much bigger list of fish that I have looked into and researched. They are the ones that I would most like to have in a tank..
