I got this guy a few days ago. I have never seen one so small!! :notsure: The rock of orange zoas is about 2 inches, to give an idea on his size. He is eating frozen brine!!! I have a very mature 125 with plenty of pods and "bugs" so he should get plenty to eat. Wish me luck with him. Enjoy!

Very cute! You should do well with him, your tank meets all the requirements, eating frozen brine is a plus. Try mixing some mysis with the brine, if you get him to eat mysis, no worries

To keep your guy healthy, being he accepts frozen right now, add some vitachem to his frozen. Vitamines would be so great to get into him now. When he gets older he may just want pods. You can't add vitamines to those. You have to defrost the food anyway, add a few drops on his food, it will help him be strong with a high immune system. It tastes good too
(at least my fish seem to think so! :joy: )

Sepulation....I tried the mysis with selcon tonight, he only got one or two pieces, my tangs are such pigs!!! A few hours later, I put a little more in and he got a few more. Thanks for the suggestion, I really feel good about this one. He seems to be filling out some too. He was a little thin when I got him, but they fed him real good at the LFS before bringing him home. I think he has found a good home.... my pods might be saying something else of course! Thanks again.

I got him from Marine Scene in Reston/Herndon border. They are awesome!!! They specialize in saltwater fish only. Very knowledgeable. And quarantine everything.

Anonome, I have the same problem feeding my mandrin. Here is what I do and it helps a lot. 1. Turn off any pumps in your tank that you can when your ready to feed him. Sometimes my mandrain would be ready to eat a piece of food. He would stair at it so long the current would blow it away. He would stay there for a while and I think he is wondering what just happened? 2. When he gets to a good location for feeding, put a dose of food in another location to distract the other fish. 3. I use a turkey baster with a piece of tubing on it ,to give it a little more length and put that food in front of his nose. Small amounts, and I do do this a couple of times. This works well for me. Good luck!

Thanks kg2qe that idea is great. I tried it and the little guy must have been watching the tangs because he is officially a PIG! Great idea. I don't know why I never thought of that.....I do that with my corals, why not the little mandarin? I have to say the tangs have caught on to the baster coming into the tank for the mandarin, they try to get at the food eventhough I have fed them plenty before feeding him. Go figure. I usually feed the coral after the lights have turned out for the coral, so I don't think they knew about the baster before now.
Anyway, I wanted to let everyone know that Fred, the mandarin, is doing wonderfully......getting really plump. I'll post a picture soon for you to see him. Thanks all.
