My (unbiased) dealings with swf.com

Lately I've seen some posts that are complaining about swf.com and the shipping of their packages arriving late. Swf.com can't be blamed for this because it's out of their hands once they give the package to FedEx. So blame FedEx and not SWF.com.
I thought I'd offer my personal experiences with SWF.com...
2005: I got into saltwater fish pretty heavily. I made an order through swf.com and the whole process went smoothly. I did have a DOA cleaner shrimp which SWF.com asked me to send the dead cleaner shrimp back to them so they could examine. I did, and they did, and I received full credit towards another purchase...
2010: I got back into the hobby because my wife thinks that saltwater fish are cool..
I got back to this site and inquired about the credit I had from 5 years ago.. SWF.com did some digging and after two days found the credit that I was due and gave it to me ($19.99).
I made an order for: Neon brain coral frag, candy cane single head, clown goby, and a koralia nano powerhead (did I mention I got free shipping due to their FREE FLORIDA SHIPPING promotion?). I used my credit from 5 years ago and the stuff arrived when it was supposed to....
I was surprised that the dry goods came shipped with the live goods and that the shipping price wasn't increased due to that. Other companies will try to charge additional shipping when shipping both dry/live goods together.
I was also surprised that the candy cane coral had 4 heads and not just one.
I also received 'reef reward points' good for free stuff on my next order.
My neon brain didn't arrive well, and it's nobody's fault. Just a process that could happen during shipping. SWF.com offers a 15 day guarantee on their live goods (wow). I explained, and showed a pic to swf.com's support, they then offered me the credit for coral.
Next order: I haven't received this order quite yet and it's due to come in Tuesday of next week. I'll let you all know how that one works out.. I expect it to be good, but I would let everyone know if it wasn't. Two fish, a coral, and some dry goods will be coming. I've already received some more 'reef rewards' that I can use for free stuff.

I have noticed some companies stop using Fedex due to too many lost and damaged packages. I worked at Fedex ground for a while and the way I saw packages treated there it is no wonder they end up lost and damaged. I have never had any problems with saltwaterfish, but I hope that if this happens very much more they will consider going UPS. UPS seems to really have it together and are very organized, unlike........ How many more fish need to lose their lives due to fedex's incompetance.

My only problem I had was with a couiple of the bags lost their water. SWF gave me credit with no problems.
Now I have had problems with Fedex. One time I ordered a bucket of salt and the Fedex guy left it on my doorstep but the bucket was busted open. A lot of the salt had leaked out. I couldn't beleive that they delivered it in that condition. I filed a complaint with Fedex but it probably was taken seriously.

Funny i ordered a Reef Crystals 200 gallon mix in a box and FedEx lost it, umm i wonder if they have a salt fetish

If I were to list all my dealings with SWF orders...I would be here for 2 days..LOL...I have ordered MANY MANY times....I have NEVER beed unhappy with what I have received, and when something did come DOA or die within the 15 days I did promptly get credit...I am also extremely happy with the customer service I receive...
ALSO...there have been times where an item died after putting it in my tank and I DID NOT request credit....because in reality, we all know that sometimes stuff dies for no reason....
I did have some issues with FED EXP...BUT they were at the stop over places....Once they reached my Local (LOL) branch, whether delivered at home or at my job, the FED EXP drivers I deal with have gone out of their way to deliver the packages directly to me....we even have exchanged cell #'s to insure we do not miss each other....
I guess That is one advantage of being in a small town :)

Let me preface this by saying that I can be a huge jerk when it comes to poor/slow service. About three weeks ago, I placed my first order with SWF. Honestly, I have a fantastic LFS 4 blocks from my house and only ordered from the site because I didn't want to wait for the store to order more snails. I recieved my snails, a bottle of reef pods and two serpent stars in the early afternoon of my delivery date ( less than 24 hours in transit to Chicago). Everything arrived in great condition with a heat pack that was still warm into the next day. I acclimated per the site's instructions, and have yet to see any deaths. In fact, my snails went about making babies the next day. I was so impressed with the quality of the livestock and their shipping that I placed another order two days ago, and plan on making most of my large/hard-to-find puchases from here from now on.

yea fedex is horrible. few weeks ago i made a order. swf did a great job no complaints on there end. i made sure i was up at 7am to make sure i was awake and sat on the couch next to the door all morning to make sure i didnt miss fedex. well about 11am i went to my car and my order was just sitting on the porch sitting in the rain. i was pissed they xould of at least knocked if they wasnt going to wait to see if i was home

And made another order last Friday with swf.com... I made the order early AM before work... a few things went on sale after I had already made my order. I sent them an add on request and Monday they added them to my order and shipped my stuff.
Everything arrived today. Cold packs were used because FL has been getting hot. Everything is alive and ready to get acclimated.

oh, got a porcelain crab, a duncan, a lil green fl ric. Most of what I got was dry goods and a couple fish for my brother (hippo / anthias).
I'll get some pics later after college :(
