Lois there are test kits made by Hach, Salifert, Seachem, for the detection of silicates in the water.
Bang, are you suggesting that the silicates are feeding phytoplankton or radiolarians that are coloring the water?

A Diatom bloom. Typically in our tanks Diatoms are not limited by food or light. The usual population limiter are the Silicates they require to build their Silica structure.

Diatoms would cause the water to be green? I don't see diatoms, or at least the typical brown diatoms, anywhere?
I think there's something like 100,000 species of Diatoms, many of which are bright green. Keep in mind I'm just going off experience here, not fact. If it is Diatoms I would think that your Macro algae would have stopped growing by now.
Was gonna be my next question too, are there green diatoms?
TommieLynn, do you have a green dusting on the glass also?
No, the glass is clean, as are the rocks and sand. I only clean the class every 5-7 days and even then, it's really not dirty

I honestly didn't know any diatoms species were green. I thought they were all brown and red.
Macros are still growing well. They're not growing as fast as my 180 reef, but I've been attributing that to less nutrients in this tank than in the 180.
