Sorry to hear about the yellow tang...it did not look good :(
I am glad you finally have your own test kits though.....being able to test no matter when is very important. AGAIN....How do you mix your new SW? Do you follow the proper mixing procedures as outlined in a post earlier in this thread? That is also very important
and You MUST get a powerhead or 2......circulation within the tank is extremely important also.
and get some better foods.....mysis, marine cuisine, emerald entree.....and the tang will need algae sheets in their diet
REMEMBER...they grow fast, so if you are truly planning on upgrading, I would start now

OK...to mix new sw
you need to mix it in a clean container that you use ONLY for this purpose...add the appropriate amount of salt to (HOPEFULLY) RO/DI water.....stir vigorously......add a powerhead and a heater and let mix for 24 hours

Question: Is the Tang top fin standing straight up? Sometimes these meatheads freak themselves out, and they kinda goin into a seizure, and will recover in short time.

Reverse Osmosis/Deionized Water. Which makes the water 99% pure. Its a good thing to use, but in a fish only tank, its not necessary.

What is RO/DI water?
reverse osmosis and de-ionized
You can but it at Walmart, or you should look into an ro/di system...google ro/di systems amd you will see what I am talking about
and it is something that would benefit your fish a great deal......tap water will cause nothing but problems in the long tun

All depending on where you live. I have used tap water for over 10 years, never with a problem. So, it all depends. IMO

I got my water tested today, Nitrate, Nitrite, pH, kH and water hardness are all where they are supposed to be.

Tangs are skittish, and bullets in the water when they get spooked. He could have just kept running into stuff, yoiu never know.

The best thing you can do for yourself is start doing your own water testing. Someone from the fish store telling you that everything is normal wouldn't satisfy me at all. It shouldn't satisfy you either.

Assuming you are using your tap water for water changes and what not, how much chlorine is in the water? What about flouride? How about sodium? Calcium? What about other nasties? Best thing to do is to contact your local water department and ask them where to find the most recent water sample report.
