nass snail behavior

So everytime I do a water change my nass snails become very active. Idk why but they climb the glass and my rock exploring everything. What triggers them to move during water changes? They go right back under the sand once I restart the system.

Do you turn the waterflow off when changing the water? If so, the sandbed could quickly become hypoxic forcing the snails out of the sand bed.

Do you have power heads in your tank? If not you may want to add some. This will keep water moving during the shut down of I asume of your sump.

So I am going to leave the powerheafs on from now on. I just have my return/skimmer/powerheads on one outlet strip and instead of turning the strip off I will just unplug the return and skimmer. I might have to move my powerheads down because they are mounted high.
