How do you post pics on this God forsaken forum?????
I have tried and tried, but it keeps denying me. Do you have to resize the pics or something?

Yes the pics need to be no larger than 550x650, and have a file size of I think 250kb. They need to be small otherwise it wont work. Some people just put their pics on photobucket and paste the links which works just as well. Also, if you did it that way, the pictures can be as big as you want.

Really? It used to be 500x500. I didn't even notice it changed. Maybe it was when the 10 character minimum post was lifted...and the 10 character max for usernames.

Say it isn't true SoCal! You're a PC guy? I always figured you for a mac guy. I'm a mac guy... but a newbie... the whole vista thing converted me.

Actually we used Mac until the mid 90s. Software was getting hard to find and using translators for PC software was a PAIN! We figured Mac had a year or two at the most before folding. Who knew?

We still have the old mac stuff and a couple thermal dye sub printers that were state of the art in their day.
Vista makes me want to run into heavy traffic with my arms in the air. I spent the first 2 weeks nuking garbage programs and shutting stuff down. I still have stuff running in the background that I need to shut off. I just keep forgetting to do it.

Sorry if I'm going further off topic. But what stuff can I turn off. I hear Best Buy offers the service to turn off the junk programs.

Have you heard that windows is trashing vista and will be offering Windows 7 now? I think it's a free upgrade for vista users but not sure.

Start task manager and look at processes. It will show you what is running and how much memory it is using at present.
Uh oh.
I have to take my daughter to school, I'l be back in about 30 minutes.

Rather than try to explain it here I'll post a couple links that will explain and walk you through the process.
The first is just telling you what you already know. Vista is slow and needs to be modified from it's over the counter configuration.

and
This one explains what services to adjust for performance.

this one also shows what to turn off and how.

These tweaks will dramatically speed up your PC, especially boot time. I went from 1 minute start up to under 20 seconds.
ps...increasing your RAM will also make a huge difference with Vista.

THANKS!
I have 3gb of ram. I just got this thing. It wouldn't give me 4bg because of the 32 bit OS. I wanted 4 so I could squeeze as much out of it as I could ('cause can't a 32b use 3.6gb?). I have a lot of action going on at once with the programs I use...... wish I could have gotten the 64b but it wasn't compatible with any of my software...
Speaking of, I'm ticked at some of my software right now. It says I loaded it too many times so I can't register online and it will stop working soon. It's my freaking software that I paid for!!! I get what their up to but they should be able to check and see if it's coming from the same IP address or something. They want me to deactivate it on the other computer first! If the freaking thing was working I wouldn't have just bought a new one! I'm ticked that I spent good money and now I have to get on the phone and beat up some people. It's less trouble just to rip them off...

No, we just need to fit in a little question...like...um, well...Oh, I know. Salt Nate, were you able to resize your pics?
There, not it's not really a hijack, because we are still trying to help the OP.

BTW, Cranberry, you can google "RAM for ___________" and just enter your PC model and you will get results on how much RAM your machine will support. I had the same issue with 64bit 32 bit conflicts. I am restricted to 2gb ram, but it's plenty once I took the reins away from vista.

Free Upgrade?
From Microsoft?

FYI Windows 7 is slated to be released June 2009, which translates to sometime late 2010.

I am not opening this case.... never! LOL. This is the 4th computer in a year and a half. I'm done with fiddling. The last RAM I installed... all paired with the mobo, each other and the other pair..... well that computer is in the room not working now after that. So, I ordered exactly what I wanted and paid 2 grand... I'm done :)
I gotta get those vista reins.
