When this happened to SMU back in the 80's, their football program never did recover. Guess this explains why the PAC-10 is getting Nebraska and Coloroado to pull away from the Big 12, with Texas, Texas A&M, and most of the other Big 12 teams following to their conference or the SEC:

USC is a little different school than SMU... But dang, for a kid who lost to Texas. bahahaha

I wish the NCAA had some recourse against the people who actually committed the crimes. Pete Carroll bolts for a multi million dollar coaching gig in the NFL... Reggie Bush makes millions in New Orleans... yet it's these kids at SC now who are going to pay the price.
Seems a little unfair...

In size and popularity, true. But before SMU got hit with the Death Penalty, they were a powerhouse in the Southwest Conference. After their 5 year sanction, they couldn't even contend to stay in the SWC, much less be asked to move to the Big 12. They got relegated to the lower-tiered conference with U of H, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State. Will that happen to USC? Not likely. But when you take away scholarships and recruitment for a couple years, your football program will be pretty much non-existent for the next 3 - 5 years after the sanction is lifted.

NCAA hypocrites want to make an example of them but did you notice they didn't impose a TV ban
Guess they need those TV revenues. Does seem BS that the two people responsible for this skate slick and the program gets the shaft. I kinda wondered if something like this was in the works when Carrol decided to split. The bowl ban probably isn't that big a deal, SC was in a rebuilding stage anyway.

Conference USA is a little bigger than the Southland conference... Rhett Bomar or not, no one in the southland conference has been ranked... (SHSU alum)

Who was Pete Caroll's boss...oh yeah, the guys running the college that are still there. Unless you think they did not know about what was going on....then you are blind.

You know, I've always thought this was a bum rap for the kids there now...

You don't understand the power Carrol had there. This was such an isolated thing I wouldn't place money on the AD knowing about it.

imo they say all this oh this is soo bad, but it happens at every school and most high schools too. As if the people running the NCAA don't get comped or favors. These players are bringing in millions and millions of dollars, and all they get is free astronomy classes... I think it is a little bit of BS myself... (come on didn't you ever watch the program?)

I doubt he did is as well...but if this was a corporate business, Clemson kid would be calling for the CEOs head and stating the company should be paying hefty fines....that is my point.

Be curious to see what the BCS does with their '04 National Championship. Might be a redemption for Utah. Oklahoma had no business being in that game. Talk about politics...

Mike Garrett is the guy that's going to get fired. He tried to throw Basketball under the bus, but it didn't work.
This has nothing to do with why they are trying to expand. The PAC doesn't need USC to be great, USC was crappy in the 90's. Texas has said time and time again they won't go to the SEC, remember school Presidents have to sign off on these kinds of things, Texas has always looked down on the SEC academically, The PAC 10 has 3 top 15 public schools (UW, Cal, and UCLA) and 1 very good private school (USC) and one of the best private schools in the country (Stanford). I'm surprised they were able to take Colorado, I figured the Pac would be forced to take Baylor even though they don't want them. The state of Texas may be conservative, but Austin is very liberal, they will fit in just fine in the PAC.

Nebraska is going to Big 10, not the Pac.

True and False....True about the TV, very untrue about the rebuilding, USC has a top 3 recruiting class for 2010, and a total stud at QB. They will be in a rebuilding phase now, and may lose a few of this years recruits. Players can now transfer without sitting out a year due to the penalties.

No champion for that year, which is sorta a joke. SC dominated Oki so bad there is no doubt they could have beat them without Bush and only 10 men playing offense.

You bring in a whole new coaching system and it's a rebuilding year.
Just heard Colorado has officially joined the Pac. I don't understand going after all the texas teams and Oklahomelys but if the big 12 is going to collapse I guess it makes sense.

Yeah, my understanding was that in regards to Texas, take all four or don't get the Longhorns. I.E. A & M, Tech, and Baylor; Then get Oklahoma and Ok. St (also inseparable). Maybe the Pac knows they can get the Buffaloes (a good school academically, and in a major market area of Denver) and not have to take Baylor.....Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Yeah. I really don't think the Texas schools want to play in the Big 10 and it sounds like they loath the SEC so I don't know what other option they have other than to maybe jump into the WAC or Mountain West and make them legitimate BCS conferences would wouldn't be all that bad of an idea either. I just think a 16 team conference doesn't make a lot of sense.

Colin Cowherd had a good point, if you were a successfull UT grad where would you rather take a long weekend to watch your team? Madison Wisc, Happy Valley PA, East Lansing MI, ect.; Or Phoenix, L.A., Bay Area, and Seattle....I would sure as hell rather be in the Pac 10 if I were a UT person.
