definitely stop buying from that guy because he does not know a thing about what he is talking about. Many people actually buy supplements to grow that purple and red algae in their tank, including me :D

Coralline algae is from low lighting. Is the purple growing in areas where there is less light? Do you supplement calcium into your tank?

the purple algae is growing directly under the lights... it does not grow in the darker spots, like under the live rock that is proped up.

Also, is it bad for the tank to have to much air circulating through it? We have a 402 powerhead running in it.

Nope. Too many people's tanks don't have enough flow. Remember, you are looking to recreate the ocean in a box. You just don't want the circulation to a point where the fish are getting blown away. Then it would be a problem. If they can handle it, and aren't fighting hard to swim through the current, don't worry about it.
As for the coralline algae, don't worry about it. It cannot hurt your tang or any other fish you put it in your tank.

Can anyone tell me what supplements are a must have in all saltwater tanks, if any. I'm not to sure what we should be putting into the tank if not neccesary.

Cyanobacter is a sign of excess nutrients. It's very common to new saltwater aquariums. It can be toxic to fish but they tend to avoid it.
Try a search on Cyano*
you should be able to find a lot of information.

Ok, but should i be putting anything in my tank at all? Or is it just if something is not quite right? And how do i know if i need to?

Do not add anything you don't test for. If you don't know the ingrediants of an additive don't buy it.
When in doubt a water change is always somewhat effective.

As far as that purple algae in my tank...it is not so purple i guess. I have read on the internet on that cyano site that it is not the greatest for my tank.
