NEED ANOTHER SKIMMER :(

OK...I have freakin had it with this skimmer

I have a Reef Octopus HOB BH100SS skimmer on my 54G corner bowfront......I have had it since January.....it has always had bubbles regardless of what I have tried.....it had a small leak at an o ring section.....we thought we had it fixed last time I took it apart....just found out we did not

I have hated this skimmer from day one....so I am just gonna get another one

SPACE is a BIG issue....NO SUMP. and NO ROOM....this must be a HOB...I was seriously considering the aqua C remora last time....but chose this one

I only have 3 1/2" from back of tank (and wall) and the skimmer CAN NOT be more than 9" wide....

I hate this tank

SO...Get the AQUA C......or is there something else anyone would recommend

p.s......anyone wanna buy a used skimmer

Did you scan the other forum for a solution for your issues? I know there was a thread on the bubble issue and such

Yeah....IDK what to do :( someone said to take a piece off the impeller...but I am a little scared to do that...then there is the darn leak issue.....we replaced the seals, and siliconed.....I thought it was working...it may have for a little while....but I just noticed a little salt stream down the back of the aquarium......

Where is it leaking? The intake or the outlet bulk head seal?

As for the bubbles, the way I understand how that skimmer holds on to the tank is by the body of the skimmer itself. Right? Not by the plumbing? "IF" so, you might try turning the outlet like on your CPR to rid the bubbles. Maybe a sponge on the outlet on the inside of the tank to catch any last lingering bubbles.

It leaks at the inlet seal.....I really think it is defective
.....we have done silicone, different washers....IDK what else to do...thought we had it fixed the last time

On this skimmer, there is no way to turn the outlet, the tube is really weird, and I have a sponge over the output part right now....bubbles come right thru it

tried a sponges on the inner part...it makes the skimmer over flow. I really think I just got a bad one

want it LOL

Sure, I'll take it. Please leave a proper return address on it, and I will return it when its fixed. (Not joking either) I think it should fit in a flat rate box, No?

Is there any kind of a burr on the body of the skimmer?

Sorry its been a day or two.........

YES...that is it....and F is where it leaks....if you tighten it too much, the washer bends (??) and if you don;t tighten it enough....well....then it's loose

So, I must ask.
Is the washer on the inside or the outside?
Have you tried an O-ring lubricant or Petroleum jelly?(Vaseline) Before the silicone that is.

Edit;
I have had that diagram on my window section for a day or two now, and I just remembered to respond to your thread tonight.LOL

Washer is outside....and we tried EVERYTHING.....I thought the washer was defective...and I had a few the same size left from something else....they would not work either

tried 2.....nope.....as I said...my husband even siliconed it.....and it still leaks.....thank goodness it is a slow slow drip....I have stuff under it

How long can a tank run w/o a skimmer? it's mixed reef with a cascade 700 canister filter (54 G tank)

I'm not the best person to ask that question. I try to avoid skimmers so, my answer is..............

It would be nice if you lived around the corner. I would be happy to drop by and take a look.LOL. I am no joking though, if you want to spend the coin on shipping. I would be happy to look at it and try to fix it for you. I just can't see why a bulk head would leak. There is only a few reasons IMO.

I would have the washer on the inside.
Maybe try an O-ring instead of a rubber washer.
Lube the washer/O-ring with lube. It does wonders.
Maybe place a plastic washer up against the washer/O-ring to prevent it from being "twisted" while the nut is tightened.
Check for burrs.
Inspect the bulk head, maybe the burr is on it, or its warped bad.
Replace the bulk head.

Well the washer can't go on the inside......the "F" tightens by turning that whole tube (it's one piece).....there is nothing on the other side to hold a washer

Tried an o-ring.....didn't work

I'm thinking a bad part.....but that is only one of my issues....the bubbles into the tank is the other

this unit is 17" tall.....the biggest flat rate box is 12 :(

I'll check into the cost of shipping.....pm me your zip.......I just might get the aqua c....IDK....seems like I always get the lemons

You know....even if I fixed the leak...i still have the bubble issue

I'm ordering the Aqua C Remora tonight......with the Maxijet I guess.....
After I get it, I will take the other off, clean it up, and if anyone is interested...HAHA...let me know.....HECK it's only 8 months old.....I just don't want to mess with it anymore
