Lol, sounds good to me, Shawn. While your at it, check out the thread I have of the "progress of a 110g show tank" that is just running a scrubber. In 3 weeks, hair algae has disappeared and the screen is a gorgeous green. :D
I too question everything as well that I read in books and definitely on forums. I try to go to scientific data sources for a lot of my questions. It seems that lab studies can be more useful than hear-say. lol

LOL...I thought the rocks do slowly over many years did wither away. Anyway, my sand has no real purpose but to look nice. I have a phosphate reactor to get rid of phosphates and an Aquaripure filter for the nitrates. The snails eat the algae and the fish look happy and swim around.
I have spent a small fortune on my SW tank, I want SPS coral but I'm gun shy, and keep putting them off. The test kits say all is well and nothing is dead, so life is good.
Many of us have spent small fortunes on our tanks - that's why we read and research so much and debate each other at 2 in the morning. lol!
Rocks to wither away over time - it's called erosion. Erosion is not a chemical process, but a physical one.
There are many SPS tanks with sand beds - as long as your water quality is on par and your chemicals are balanced and your lights are adequate, then it's something to look into getting.
