How long has it been like this? Is it a rapid progression or very slow? Post your water parameters. What are you feeding the fish and how long have you had it?

I have had the fish for about 1 year and it has had this for about 3 months or so. It seems to be a slow progressing thing but i am not 100 percent positive. I feed my fish some dry pellets along with silver sides and a combination of frozen foods. i also feed them a couple clams from time to time depending on the time of year.
I will get my parameters and post them.

It really appears to be a pretty bad case of HLLE (head and lateral line erosion) The diet is not the best for this fish, being primarily a herbivore. The condition can sometimes reverse itself but it's a slow process. I would add regular offerings of greens to the diet; nori, sea veggies, spirulina flake. Stray voltage is often considered a contributing factor but my guess is the diet insufficiency.

So i am doing my testing and my Nitrates and nitrites are a little high so how can i bring them down?
water changes ******
plants (macroalgae to absorb/'export' the nitrogen)
if overstocked, then reduce nymber of fish
if overfeeding, then reduce amount of food

+1...I know cause I had the beginnings of HLLE in 3 tangs...I added algae sheets, formula 2 cubes, selcon, zoe, zoecon (vitamins) Garlic, BETTER FOOD, and I purchased a titanium ground probe....2 out of 3 of my tangs that had it are cured...one is much better, and yes it is a slow process either way.
