Need Protein Skimmer Reccomendation..

Alright, I need to get a protein skimmer... the deal is I need one that will fit on my tank. I'm looking for a back back type, or HOB.

As you can see I only have abour 3" of clearence from the top of the tank to the light.. Does anyone know from experience one that will fit?

aqua c remora is a good hob skimmer.

i have a prisim HOB skimmer, and I not entirely happy with it. Does anyone one have any experience with one? My Guy as the LFS who I really trust told me that they are pretty good.

Stop trusting him LOL When I was first looking for a skimmer, EVERYONE told me the Prizm's were crap

Is that a 10G? I have a bak pak 2 on my 29G, and an Octopus BH100SS on my 54G
I like them both....they pull out some good smelly gunk

SORRY I started out with Seaclones....everyone said throw them out LOL....I didn't cause it was all I had. They worked okay for me..IMO better than nothing
Maybe your prism will work for you until you can get a better one

I hope, I dont plan on having a large fish load. I have a HOB filter that is rated for 55 gallons and the skimmer, do you think I am okay? for now...

With a small bio-load...IMO...yeah you should be okay

Okay, so Aqua C Remora and Octopus and Bak Pak 2. are good from what I got out of that!

I just hope they only need 3" of clearance on top. Oh, and Meowzer, it's a 29g. If anyone has any of these hang ons and wants to measure how tall it is from where is hangs over the tank feel free to!!

When you say clearance on top...Do you mean from top of tank UP????
I was thinking you meant from back of tank to wall%%
Both the Bak Pak and the Octo are 7" above rim of tank,
and both are 3" from back of tank to wall

I've got four different types on my tanks: I've got a Remora on my 46 and it does great. On my 55 I've got a Red Sea Prizem which is so/so, I wish I didn't spend the money on it, but it works, you just got to keep on eye on it after water changes. (Here comes the beat down) On a 20 I've got a Seaclone 150 that I've had for about 10 yrs and mine works like a champ. Pulls out dark skim and I clean it out about twice a week. I like it. On my 29 I've got a Seaclone 100 that sucks, I wish I would have got something else. So in order: Aqua C
Seaclone 150
Red Sea Prizem
Seaclone 100
I know everyone else hates the seaclone, but IMO, the 150 works .

Mine did too....Other skimmers DO work better though, BUT the Seaclone does work too

Yeah meowzer, I need 3" from the top of the tank, upward. I have heard all of the skimmers mentioned are good, but it has to be only 3" above the rim of the tank. 7 definitely won't work.

WELLLLL...even the Seaclone is 4"

Those are the ones I have dealt with personally...so that is all I know
