couldnt you start them on rotifers? The nice thing about rotifers is they are like grocery bags, you can do

[hr]
nutrient loads adn they just carry the load around like a tiny little plastic bag. They rock for raising fry and nauplii

zonut- its impossible to find them around here and I dont know where to look on the net. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves though. Lets see if they eat and if the dragon doesnt eat them!
I just got them an hour ago. Acclimating now.

Lookin' good. In my old apartment with a ton of dwarf lion tanks, I could never stop watching them. You'll see them interact as a pair and go after the same food, it's fun to watch.
They used to steal food from the eels though. Although your eel looks like he can handle his own.

No experience breeding, kept every species of dwarf, oftentimes had them paired together in tanks (before moving had four different lion species in one large tank).
But i never kept two of the same species.

my mom added a lion a while ago and it lost part of its lip trying to steal some dinner from my dragon (spot feeding is necessary to insure the survival of his tankmates) otherwise he doesn't bother anything in the tank

So far hes been staying away. The lions are hanging out on the left side in the caves and he stays in the back on the right. I dropped some ghost shrimp in there just now and the larger one ate one, but the smaller didnt go near em. Try again tomorrow.

what size was the tank?

Well, I used to keep the pairs in 180s.
If you're asking about the tank size when all four were together, that was in a holding tank that was about 300 gallons. It was more of a tub than a tank, it was fun to watch them from above as they ate. They were only in there a few months as new tanks were set up or new homes for them were found.

Well, they both took some DEAD ghost shrimp this afternoon so I guess we're on the right track. I put some very small pieces of scallop on thier rock before I went to the store and now every piece is gone.

Update- They both took some shrimp off the rock and bottom tonight with the lights out. I dont want to jinx it, but I think I might be "out of the woods" on this one.:nervous:

I was anyway. I came home after the christmas party for work tonight to find the larger one dead. He was laying on the top of the rocks with his gills flared out. I ran a full set of tests along with an inspection of the fish. There were no bite marks or visible problems with it. The tests break down like this:
Temp: 76 deg
Salinity: 1.025 spec. grav.
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrtite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 10 ppm
pH: 8.4
All the rest (copper, dissloved O2, etc) were also in the green. I think Im gonna chalk this one up to shipping stress and order one from my LFS this time in a few weeks. The was probably the first and last time ordering fish online.
Any other ideas? This is only the second "unexplained death" Ive had.

Gas- You are right about the shipping... They don't ship very well at all. The only lions, IME, that seem to do decent during shipping are volitans. If you LFS will order you one I would definitely use them.
