Would it be safe to put a plastic cup with holes over him..... keeping the Clown out
The Clown is very hyper and will not stay out of him?
I am thinking this way the Sally Lightfoot won't get near him either.
If not a plastic cup, then what else can I do?
I really don't have another tank ready to put him into...... or put the move the clown.
Thanks again.

hey .... i see what you are talkin about.... i have a large LTA that when i first got hime had a small tear in his foot and some of his internals were coming through....
i purchased him about 16 months ago or more.... i was also worried too.... but he healed up nicely within a month.... now he is doing great ...
i also have 4 other anemones in my tank that are doing good too...
the plastic cup over the anemone might not work too well it might be hard to keep it in one area if the anemone decides to move around or expends bigger than the cup itself....also u kind of restrict the water flow to the anemone and they like good water flow so they can exchange old water in them for new cleaner water outside...
id say just let him heal on his own... if u see it get worse then i would try putting him in QT but as long as he stays like that or shows improvement u should be fine... just monitor his condition
good luck

Thomas, I bought a Breed N Show basket to put the Clown in.
I can not get to the Anemone now.. he has moved under a rock.
Do you think that is a sign that he is really stresses.... he just rolls away from the Clown.
Actually, I think it may be more that the Clown is forcefull and rolls him. ????
I am going to try and capture the Clown and put him in the plastic Breed n Show container.
It has slats for water flow and it is big enough that it won't hurt him.
One more thing.. and this is important.... I still need to do the water change.
I did get the charcole but I hurt my back and can not lift the water to do the change
I need to wait till tonight and I get help.
If you were in this situation..... Exactly how would you go about doing the water change?
Should I suck up muck from under the LS or just suck out the water and put salt water back in?
The Specific Gravity yesterday was 1.022.
decintigrates or has a metldown You mentioned thise words in one of you earlier posts.
Does this occur when you see the red thin film of his foot coming off in pieces?
Meltdown... is this what is happening in the pics?
Sorry to be so long here.....
This pic was from early this am.
The next is current.
Thanks for reading and helping.. I appreciate you.
Pic did not show up.
Now for the current stage.

I am not sure if you should do this or not. But your anemone looks like an LTA. I have the same kind and initially it would do the same rolling about thing and would crawl on its side here and there. I put a small rock enclosure around its base. Just small rocks that held it straight up. Ofcourse you need to be careful that you dont injure it. A couple of days later, with the help of the rock wall to keep it standing, it forced its foot into the substrate and has been that way ever since. You could try that if you think its an LTA. I will try and post some pictures when I get home.

sometimes the LTA retracts almost totally within the substrate. You might want to take someone elses advice as well since it looks like your anemone is trying to recover and so am not sure if it will tax it too much to do all this. You might want to wait a few more days till its foot is healed and then you could try. Again I dont know if your anemone prefers the substrate or a rock.

I still think he looks ok to me. Still plenty of chance to make it over its wound.
Was there a question on what type of anemone this is? Because if there was it looks like an LTA to me.

Is there anyway you can just use a long hose (not garden variety) and syphon the water out to the driveway? Or syphon into a bucket, then powerhead and hose it to theoutside?
Then use a hose and powerhead to simply get the water up to the tank (that's how I do it) I never lift buckets up to the tank anymore, but I do have to carry them upstairs. At this point just change the water, if you can see any debris that needs to be sucked up then you can just syphon it out.
( I never dump saltwater down my drains, I have copper pipes and the saltwater would eat them alive)
A meltdown looks just like that, like a blob of melted ice cream, snotty, disintigrating. You'll know if you see it. Yours doens't look anything like that.
I susspect that your anemone might want to get away from the clownfish for a while or the clown may be pushing it into the rocks.

Well, I want to thank you for wonderful advice... I learned quite a bit... but unfortunately
for the Anemone..... he had a Meltdown. Actually, I was monitoring the tank all day.
He looked worse off each time I went in to look at him.
The last time I walked in, he was getting ready to spit this HUGE BLOG OF MUSH out of his mouth.... he was shrinking drastically... and I lifted him out of the tank into the trash can.
There was really no hope... NOW my Clown is swimming funny.
God Help Me! :)
I am a Anemone lover... and will get another. This time... I will read everthing I can on them. I think (if my Clown lives) I want a BTA or another LTA......
My Clown is a Maroon yellow stripe.. prob did not discribe him corectly, but you get the point.
From one Anomenoe lover to the next... THANKS !
Chat later. :)

I would actually love to have a Bubble Tip. I think they are very pretty.
BTW- for those reading this thread, my Clown is doing fine.
I think he was a bit upset when I took the Anemone out of the tank.
He got a bit disoriented and was swimming really funny, now I think he was just trying
to fine the Anemone......
I am at a loss, I don't know where to get a really good healthy Anemone.
I want one very bad.......
At present I have the 12gal Nano Cube... new lights.... and I see the stores have
the Nano's full of beautiful Corel, Anemones and etc......
So I know it can be accomplished.
my desire is to go to the next level and get a larger tank.
I don't think I will have as much problems with a larger tank.
Next one won't be smaller than a 55gal and possibly a 75.
If I put another Anemone in the tank with my Maroon Clown....
What other type fish can I have. Should I get another Maroon and hope they dont fight
for territory?
I need an algea eating something.... I got algea this week from something.....

your in illinois correct??
u probably dont get as good of a selection as we do because of the shipping area...
my LFS's get tons of good anemones all the time.... bubble tips are seasonal but LTA's, carpets and sebaes are always there....
as for your tank.... 12G is a little small to keep an anemone .... sure the LFS's put them in there but i think its kinda iffy.....
a bigger tank would be much better for an anemone to thrive in.... i think i would wait to u upgrade to get another one.... but if u cant wait i dont blame u

as for your current tank.... in no way should u put another clown in the tank thats asking for a huge fight to the death.... if u want 2 put 2 clowns in a tank u have to do it when they are young so one can be the male and the other the female and u need a bigger tank id say 100 +
as for algae what do u have for a clean up crew?? i dont think ull really find many fish that will take care of that for such a small tank.... hows ur water paramters??
algae is usually caused by an excess of nutrients such as nitrates and phosphates

To be sure he was on the way out you should have given him a little sniff, dieing anemones really stink. In my opinion he was looking fine, however when they do go down hill it happens really quickly.
Sorry for the loss, if you were closer to me I'd supply a BTA for you, I have about a dozen but do not ship them. I hate it when anemones die.

Thomas,
I did take a quick sniff.. and it was stinky. I think quickly was your operative word.....
From the time we wrote, he began expelling all that muchas from his mouth into a huge bubble which began seeping into the tank.
Then it started splitting opento see his insides. (mouth area)
Since last night, I have lost 3 inhabinants of my tank.
I did a water change. I need to check this am to see what my readings are.
So far, my Clown is hangning in there.
Yes, I am calling the LFS.... to determine their their policys.
They knew I have had problems with this Anemone.... so I will see...
what type LFS they are.....
Gosh, I wish you shipped, I would purchase all my Anomenoe's from you. :cheer:
How large of a store do you have? Or are you a very knowledgeable hobbiest ?
I am in Southern Illinois, approx 300 miles south of Chicago.
I am 60 miles East of St. Louis
About 3 hours from the Indiana border
Same for Tenn. and KY.
Sure wish there was someone in my area to buy from... but then again.
I am not going to scratch the LFS off just because I purchased one Anomene from them.
I do think they know their stuff. I also, think as a new hobbiest, I may be doing some things wrong... and time will be on my side...
BUT this I know, I will have a healthy Anomenoe one day and my husband told me earlier
he wanted me to get a larger tank.
I think that is a great idea.... gives me more time to clean up when things happen.
Plus, that was my goal anyway....
I am going to start looking for no less than a 55 gal to start and possibly a 75... wish me the BEST, I don't believe in luck. lol
Your fishy friend, Vik

I don't own a store, I just happen to raise Bubble Tip Anemones. Got my first one over 4 and a half years ago and it is still alive and happy in my tank. Its split so many times I've lost count. I have an entire colony of anemones on one rock, about 10, there are three on the opposite side of the tank, and one that lives near the bottom back of the tank.
I'm no expert, just a fellow hobbiest.

I have a sebae anenome as of about a week ago. He is yellow and nice looking. He is turning on his side some too. Sometimes he shrinks to the size of a quarter, some mornings he is as big as my ifst. Is this normal, he is in my substrate but seems to lay 1/2 way on his side a lot. The only thing I have to feed him is brine shrimp, how do you get them to take it from you ?
thoughts you anenome lovers ?!!!

sebaes are usually hard to take care of from what ive read and what ive experienced myself ... it was my only one to die.... i feed my anemones strips of squid 2-3 times a week and i also add filter feeding food for my other inverts and corals which they might use some of that too....
as for yours..... what kind of lighting do u have?? mine will also shrink up time to time... i have one LTA that is about 10" in diameter then at night he shrimks to the size of a baseball.... my rose tips will shrink once a day or so when they expel waste from there system....
how deep is your substrate?? what about your water conditions?
