We just got 2 Clowns from SWF and I can't get them to eat... They are still real active we received them last Thursday. Here's what I have tried... Frozen Emerald Entree' - Omega one Veggie Flakes & Omega Marine small pellets with garlic. Plus- a little seaweed on the clip. Any Suggestions?

Hello,
Ok I have always been told never to feed salt water fish any type of flakes or pellets, to stay away from that stuff. Clown Fish's favorite food is cyclopeeze, they go absalutly nuts over it. I have been into salt water fish for about three years, and everyone one of my local fish stores tell me never to feed any type of flakes or pellets. Another good food is Mysis shrimp, just about any fish will go for that stuff. I mix it up between the both of them. I have just been told not enough protein and stuff like that in flakes. Sorry so long and hope this helps, and check out your local fish store.

I had the same problem when I first got my clowns. I thought they were the dumbest fish I had ever had...they acted like they didnt even know food was being put in the tank, just swimming around with this dull look on their faces!
Now they are little piggies! Clowns really like to eat. Try some live brine shrimp, mine love mysis too. Theyll eat, mark my words.

What I do is shut my power heads and pumps off before I feed the fish. Kind of sounds a dinner bell. Drop some food in and stand back. They'll start to get the idea. Like Salt Nate said try some live brine from your lfs. Usually gets the ball rolling.

stay away from the brine shrimp it has little to no nutritional value to marine fish .. flake and pellet is fine as daily diet but do add the emerald entrese a couple times a week to get some variety and fresher quality of foods.. glad they are eating for you now
ps i feed my fish the exact foods you do - the seaweed sheets

I have never been told not to use flake or pellet food..of course don't use it as your main source though....I use frozen, and the pellets and flakes for side dishes.
I didn't know brine shrimp was no good...is it okay as a snack??

its more a filler but because fish eat it so readily they will fill up on it but a fish can die of malnutrition due to it... this is why when i purchase a fish from lfs i see it eat anything besides brine.. i always prefered frozen myself but my fish now seam to like the flake and pellet more with less waste i also feed 3 times daily

Flake and pellet food is not horrible, but i would try the other options too. Yes, garlic is a fish attractant. What I like to do is get a fresh garlic clove mash it up and let the food soak in it. Not only does it attract fish but it fights parasites

I can't get the little guys to eat the flakes or pellets they just want the frozen - in a couple of weeks I was going out of town and wanted to make it easier for my fish babysitter... Or maybe even a auto feeder? Any tricks to un-spoil... Even my dogs are spoiled and will only eat cans mixed with dry boy just keep adding work for myself LOL....

In 2 weeks they will be eating the flakes and anything else you put in the tank. Most saltwater fish in time and when comfortable will eat anything that hits the water.
