the orange thing is a Yuma Ricordia. bright orange/pink/blue yumas are VERY hard to come by. A few people on this board have one but not many thats for sure. Most of the time when you find one its being sold for an crazy amount of money.
you can find florida ricordia that are orange but the super bright yumas are the charished ones by most.
not sure what a picasso clown is. but mine are true percs. they run anywhere from 14.99 to 19.99 at my LFS but i have seen them in some places as high as 29.99 each. in most cases i see them for about 19 bucks. cheap and hardy fish
those are not "kinds" of clowns but instead just freaks of nature if you will.
sometimes you get freaky cloror paterns and people come up with funky names for them but in most cases they are one of a kind
NICE TANK!!! Hot firefish!! You've put in a lot of work into a well built tank!!!
:cheer: :cheer:
Who lives in the hole?????? Do they all share that hiding place?
that is the home to a single fire shrimp. its also his cleaning station. the fish line up there and take turns in frount of the whole. then the shrimp coems up and runs all over the fish.
then the next fish comes up. its also the place he comes to when he wants me to spot feed him. the shrimp will run all over my arm and hands when i put it in the tank.
alot of the rock in that tank is home made. The very large piece on the bottom left is home made and the large piece with the big hole is also home made. The rest is natural.
We made the rock from nothing more then portland cement and caribian sand. We made it very poruse and then seeded it in grow out tanks for a few months to make it live.
We find that the home made rock takes on new growth such as coraline MUCH faster the the natural rock did. Things like shrooms also seem to attach alot faster as well. after about 6 months you could no longer tell the live from natural. all covered in coralline.
thanks for all the great comments
Oceana,
I plan to start a reef tank (125 gal.)-
what woud be the easiest to start with live rock? Buy dead rock and layer live on top? Or should I try making rock like you did? Also, what is best for substrate-coral or live sand?
LOVE YOUR SETUP!!!!
