it will settle to the bottle as the Bac. grows on it. also you can add the spong filter that came with the PH's

if your going to be staying the rock tall the lowest layer of rocks should be in the sand bed no sitting on top of the sand bed... later when you add certain fish and inverts that shift the sand they could shift the sand right out from under the rocks and cause an avalache and possibly even a soaked living room floor depending on how fast and hard the rocks fall and if they hit the glass!! :scared:

Fishman, I tried running my filter and then it didn't clear up very fast so I thought I would just let it all just settle. Well that didn't work so I turned the filter back on and it cleared up in about a day or so. Thats a 55 with the big hang on filter.

I heard many people are using B-ionic or something, where did you get it? I don't think they have it on the website i regularly use. They do have C-Balance, I think I might get that
Information on C-Balance:
This two-part calcium and alkalinity maintenance system adjusts calcium, magnesium, and strontium ions to Natural Seawater ratios, and achieves a balanced ionic residual. Makes replenishment of calcium and alkalinity easy, and keeps your calcium and alkalinity in perfect harmony, assuring the optimum conditions for growing stony corals and coralline algae. Packaged in two 500ml (16 oz) bottles or as a concentrate in two 3785ml (1 gal.) bottles. 16 oz. treats 1,900 gallons and 1 gallon concentrate treats 15,222 gallons.
So after i buy the sponge filters for the PH, the C-Balance, and an extra powerhead i shouldn't need anymore! (the extra powerhead is for the freshwater bucket, that I plan on mixing my own salt in, if i mix my own saltwater from my LFS freshwater rather then just buying salt water from them, I save $.20 a gallon and i'll be using reef salt not just regular salt which will replenish everything!)

About the PH, i would keep them running, but I don't want them to get messed up by the sand. It's only 7.99 for a 2 pack of the sponges, so i might get them later on.

Heres another thing I was looking into, since Kalkwasser can be so beneficial, but i don't want an expensive calcium reactor, how would this be?
Kent Marine Aquadoser - just works on 'gravity' lol

I use B-ionic. from what i know it's a simalar product. should work just fine. you may not need that now since you don't have a large load.

do you recommend I turn off my powerheads when i add the sand, I don't want the sand to ruin them, but then the water will not be circulated? would the sand ruin the powerheads?

turn off the PH for now. then after you add the rock then you can turn them back on... at that point the grans will be so small that it will not affect the PH.

okay well i put the sand in and took the PH out, took them out because I'm not going to have them all in the back anyways, taht was just to try them out. Heres a pic of it, lol the small wattage of the moonlights and how much it affects the tank really impresses me, so I have the moonlights shining on the sand pile lol, heres a pic it look cool, it looks much more purple in real life then the picture shows.
