I have some stuff called reef buffer is it any good???
PH 8.2 Cal 490
Reef Buffer by Seachem? That's the stuff I use for my RO/DI. My coralline went nuts after I started using that.... more so than any other buffer.

It has more than just carbonate in it.
yeah bicarbonates (baked baking soda). nothing else nor do they even pretend there is anything more (other than to boast its "blended"). Its right on the label: carbonate and bicarbonate blend (as it is on most others like kent superbuffer dKH which list ingredients as carbonates, bicarbonates and borate salts). the only thing you dont know is the ratio of the blends. with carbonates and bicarbonates it doesn't really matter. corals cant use borates so that does but I'd just assume its very little of the content.

But whatever the blend is, it gives me excellent results. Other products that list such ingredients never gave me the same results, hence the blend of Reef Buffer is not equally matched to the others.... as it would not be equally matched to baking soda.
Not trying to make any tall claims... only stated "my coralline went nuts after I started using that.... more so than any other buffer."

This is a big reason why you have bad coral growth.
These are all give or take a bit but ideally you want:
Calcium 420 ppm
Alk 9 dKh
Mag 1350 ppm
It has nothing to do with your salt from there, it's just that reef crystals have added magnesium and calcium. I personally won't be using "grocery store" fixes anymore as you really don't know if they contain phosphates etc.
************** all of those supplements in powder form which make the "two part system" and when you break down the price it's even cheaper than say pickling lime at the grocery store -- plus the quality is outstanding.
My .02 -- take it for what it's worth.

Seems that way....alk was running 2.2 mel last time I tested....I guess my corals ate it all
.....Funny thing is that calcium, mag, ph are all perfect
I am going to be testing the alk more frequently, and am now trying to raise it
thanks all
