New Seahorses

Hello all
I've been living over in the nano section (20 gal high), but have been wishing for a horse reef for a year. I have been popping in to the seahorse section on and off reading your posts over the past year and various articles on seahorses casually here and there.
It so happened that my LFS had small seahorses in for the first time ever, and they were tank-raised and eating mysis. I think they are kuda. I also happen to have a quaranteen tank set up with a big clump of chaeto in it. So I baught 2 horses and named them Lancelot and Zoot, and they are in quaranteen. They are about 3 inches long. Currently I am working on making my reef safe for them. I have a few corals I must get rid of, (LPSs) and I need to catch a miniature purple lobster and get him out of there! I have ordered macroalgae and more pods from the petstore (although my tank has a ton; it's 2 years old and I seeded it with thousands of them over time). I am also going to put hitching posts in and create a sactuary area in the front of the tank. I have been feeding them 5-6 times a day to try and fatten them up; they seemed thin at the petstore where they had been for 1.5 weeks and I'm guessing they were not feeding them often enough, although they seem very healthy. In the next year I am hoping to set up a larger tank as well with at least 30 gallons for them.
So I thought I'd introduce myself and welcome advice!
cheers!

Thanks guys! The tank they are in is the QT tank, not many pods in there yet until i get some from the LFS thursday. All the pods are in the main tank that I've got to make a little bit friendlier for them. They seem to be eating well though every time i put mysis in for them, which has been about 6 times daily so far.
I actually got them in NH in Somersworth.

Well the seahorses successfully made their transition to the 20 gal. on Thursday. I got some copeopods from the petstore, and today I went to the beach and got hundreds of them in the sand! I have put all of them in the other small tank and am going to turn it into a refugium and will try to breed them. They are big ones. Ive got live phyto in a bottle and am trying to grow it with an airhose to feed them. I hope this plan works!

Be very careful as you can add disease and pathogens to your tank when collecting wild copepods and sand from the beach.

Nice horses hope they do well. I'm thinking about a SH tank in the future. Where in Maine are you guys from? I'm from Norway about 30min from Auburn. Do you use Deepsea....? The best!

What corals are you needing to get rid of. I might be interested depending where you are in Maine. Also have you run into any other Mainers on here? Maybe we could start a club and frag .

reefkprz is in maine. Have you joined SWAM yet? salt water addicts of maine is the local reef club. It has a site similar to this and they have monthly meetings; i just joined finally so havnt been to a meeting yet, but there is a big frag swap in portsmouth NH on the 26th between them and the Boston reefers club so Im planning on going to that! Im down in North Berwick.

Just outstanding.....these two really like to hang out together, eh?
One thing....is that an LPS coral i see in those pics? Just be aware that most all LPS corals have strong stinging tentacles....and may really hurt the horses! Just something to consider.
On another note, you are now obliged to take a full tank shot and go post it in the FTS thread on this page!
Go snap s'more pics!

Thanks! you can see lots of pictures in the nano section where I have a thread called 'new pics of my 20 high' these were all on there, but you can see the fts and corals. I did look into the LPS and on the compatibility list with horses, and everything was ok on the list except the frogspawn and small bubble, which I plan to move at some point but it is not fully extended.

K. Keep an especially close eye on that frogspawn. I don't know enough about the Bubble to comment, the frogspawn will be one to watch. Glad you're moving them out at some point.
A 46 gallon bowfront, eh? Sounds familiar......you been talking with Sue??
SHe's setting one up right now!
