new shark

So my friend went to San Francisco just visiting some friends. He came back with a little shark, I think either a bamboo shark or a banded shark. I do not know anything about this shark. He only got the shark for 13 bucks, not sure what happened. But i am assuming the fish store lost money with this shark. These sharks are regular 75 bucks or so? Right?
Can someone help me identify this shark?
What do i need to feed it and how much?
I had the shark little over a week now and it does not look like it wants to eat any time soon. Also looks like a very young shark.
Any help would be nice, thanks

sharks have very specialized needs, just so you know. read the sticky thread at the top of this forum. yeah, the lfs lost some money. what size tank is it in? what size tanks do you have? what did you try feeding it?

If you have that shark in your 20 gallon tank, please find a new home for it. There is no way that you can keep it comfortably in that tank. Either take it to your LFS for some store credit, or see if you can sell it to a local reefer.

You have that thing in a 20 gallon? I think this must be a joke so my vote is to throw it on the Barbeque and see how it tastes. I would just cook it for about 15-20 minutes on medium.

When I looked at your profile only saw the 20 listed. I am glad he is in the 100. Can't help with the feeding though, someone else is sure to chime in.

Kind of hard to tell from the markings but it looks like either a marbled catshark or a relatively uncommon aquarium shark called a zebra shark. Can you get any better pics?
BTW, I'd try adding some live ghost shrimp to get that shark feeding. My guess is that it's only a couple weeks old.

welcome. Good luck with him. Try getting a feeding stick and soaking pieces of shrimp soaked in vitamins and garlic for the flavor and see if he will eat that. You can try getting a feeding response from live food on the stick then switching to the frozen stuff right after he ate a live shrimp.

isn't a 100 gallon tank still a little on the small sized of a tank for a shark?
good job getting it to eat.

Actually just looked it up... white-spotted bamboo.

If you are going to keep that guy, you are going to want to eventually have it in a tank with 20+ square feet of surface area (ie. 96" x 30"). You may want to pick up Aquarium Sharks and Rays by Scott Michael.

I have read that its best to put them in a smaller tank at first to get them eating and established. Then putting them in a bigger tank once they turn into the little monsters they can be.
