hmm, looking at t5 fixtures. i like that they run cooler and are cheaper, is there too much of a disadvantage to going with them as opposed to MH's? what about the "Nova Extreme T5HO - 10K / 460nm Actinic "? the website im looking at it on carries it for $215.74 but that is after a sale it is regularly $520.99. BTW the 48" fixture has 4 54W bulbs. There is also a 48" fixture that has 8 54W bulbs, but it is 402.94 on sale from $971.99
i want to get good lighting so i could keep things like SPS corals, anemones, and clams, how much is getting t5s going to restrict this?
thanks.

There ya go!
Get the Nova extreme PRO
6x54 watter, you can keep anything your heart desires as far as lighting goes. That's an awesome price if it's the pro version.

No worry, they have those all over the web for around those prices. You might even find it a little cheaper if you look around. Be careful who you buy from though. the Drs. site has 'em pretty cheap. So does a site like if your "pet" was on a "mountain". I think that latter site is also reputable. As well as "aqua" in a "cave". Some site will price match, but you might have to phone order. Definetly get the pro if you dont wanna be troubled about your inverts light needs.

ok, heres another Q.

flow. at the LFS today, i was checking out the overflow in a DT, never really paid that much attention to them before. they have an output like this:
(sorry about my lack of paint skeelz, im tired
)

anyways, i realize this is from the return pump. (right? right?) well i was wondering, is this the way it is on all over flows? not exactly sure why, but i like this.
and also, what are those powerheads called that attach with magnets so the cord is on the outside? are those hydor koralias? i dont want any cords in my tank, so i really like these.
i also want a PH behind the rockwork to make sure i dont have dead spots.
if you need at least 15x turnover in the DT, not counting the one behind the rockwork, if i get a 700gph or greater return pump, do you think two 600gph koralias will be enough flow? that puts it at about 25x turnover, but ive seen people with crazy turnover rates, like 60x.
i will probably end up getting 3 koralias, counting the one for the rockwork, but if i am going to order them online i want to get as many as i will need.
thanks.

almost all if not all overflows are like that. The powerhead with the cord on the outside is a vortec and they are alot of$$$$ I have 2 modded MJs in my 75 and its crazy flow. I would go with 3 koralia #3s if you go with those

alright thanks. i noticed when i looked up the koralias that they had the cord, but i was too lazy / tired to change my post.
im thinking i would rather do those anyways, and just mount them near the top and back so they are as inconspicuous as possible.

What you should do is have pvc holding black egg crate and then put rocks on top of that with a bare bottom and have CRAZY flow. I dont no why but I have always wanted that kind of setup lmao!

like have BB for the whole tank or just have the rocks set up BB so theres more circulation under them? im not so crazy about total BB, but i was thinking about having PVC under the rock for some support & added height. like a frame.
adding to the list of stuff i need to get: black egg crate for a cover.

It would be like pvc then egg crate then rock. no sand
Kinda like a frag tank. But I doubt your mom would like it

On egay they have the koralia's for great prices. Just got #1 for 20$ each. That will be plenty of flow that you are talking about. Also what was the site you were looking at for the lights. Doing a custom corner tank. Reef only. I was going to build the lights myself but for that price I will just buy them. Please PM me the site. Thanks

you could always do a closed loop if you dont want powerheads in the tank. i plan on doing a closed loop with an oceans motions on it. im also going bb in the tank for SPS to have more flow and make it a low nutrient tank

hmm, im not really sure what closed loop means, ill check it out.

went to my reef club meeting tonight, and there was a speaker on plumbing. he discussed "durso sandpipes", "stockman sandpipes", and "hofer gurgle busters". i guess these are things that are used to help cut down on the noise your overflow makes, pretty interesting. does anyone have any info on these?
