hmm, im not really sure what closed loop means, ill check it out.

went to my reef club meeting tonight, and there was a speaker on plumbing. he discussed "durso sandpipes", "stockman sandpipes", and "hofer gurgle busters". i guess these are things that are used to help cut down on the noise your overflow makes, pretty interesting. does anyone have any info on these?
you should talk to wattupdoc i think his name is

And a closed loop is where basicly you have a extrnal pump and you drill two holes in your tank and it just takes water from one hole and puts it threw the other so its like a sump without a sump but theres many ways to do it.
edit check out melevsreef .com

well if i have to drill the holes i wont be able to do it. the tank im getting has tempered glass on all 4 sides and bottom, and it is pre drilled for a corner overflow

thanks! ill definately check that out. it looks a lot cheaper to make than buying a bunch of powerheads, and relatively simple.

Your new tank isn't tempered on all sides. Possibly it is in the bottom, but still may not be. However you dont have to drill it to do a closed loop. You can use the baffle to hide the supply for iyt. Posibly even drilling through it return could be just two returns with loc-lines(the ball socket nozzle type tubes)just hanging over the back. However, if you would take it to a glass shop, have them drill it for you. It would be much sweeter and still would'nt cost that much more. You could probgably have 3 holes drilled in it for about 60 bucks. Add a mag 7 to that, and some plumbing, plusy your bulkheads and loc-lines. For about 150 it would be supreme. Take the cost of drilling out of that, and that likely to be what your cost would be for a "HOB" type closed loop. IMO it's worth it to have the closed loop drilled.
However, the koralia's dont look too bad in a tank with a black background.
And the price on them aint too bad.

yeah, im kind of hesitant on having the tank drilled. last night i was listening to some guys talk about plumbing (Zzzz...) and one of the guys was saying (now i have no idea if this makes any sense at all, its just what i heard.) that you cannot drill a perfecto tank (which mine is) because what they do is drill it if its going to be reef ready, and then temper it, and yeah its all 5 sides.
idk.
i think im leaning more towards the koralias because i have found them cheap on e--- and other sites, and i think it will end up looking cleaner, without all that PVC in the tank.

Well, they may have said that, but it aint true!
Nobady as far as I know tempers all the panels. I am also pretty sure that I remember a thread where someone contacted perfecto and questioned the temper on a 210. Their reply was they dont temperANY PANELS OF ANY OF THEIR TANKS EXCEPT 1. I forget which one it was, but it was only the bottom panel tempered on it. I'll see if I can find that post. Koralia's are a good way to go though.

heres the post in the above thread. It says the bottoms not tempered. I'm pretty sure I saw where none are except one. https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/297415/any-suggestions-for-drilling-a-210-gal-perfecto#post_2381426
