do you drill face down and drill the back of the tank. meaning was the side with the holes facing up. i would think so put the pic threw me off. with layin on the back side of the tank on the floor. i though you would just stand over the top and drill down so when you cut through and your done with your holes. you stand the tank uprite and the holes would be on the back.
tim,
haha talkin to you like i know you, but for real any chance of a pic with the tank in it display position so i can get a front view of the overflow????
doc & clown

The OF is glass and is permanently sili'd in place. It is about 1.25" from the top of the tank. The tank is on its back to install the OF and the trim pieces. I also made the trim out of cast acrylic. You can see that the cross piece is clear. Right now its cover in tape and paper b/c I'm painting the back and one of the sides. Need to get more paint. Hopefully I can unwrap it today.
Yes you're right the tank was on its front when I drilled. I used a4" piece of PVC and some plumbers putty to create a dam around where the hole was going. Filled that with water and drilled away.

No, The whole bacl is purple. I strated by useing spray paint. A Navy blue. thats what you see on the inside. I used an entire can of paint and then it still didn't cover. So i had Lowes color match it and the purple is what they came up with. But I had it and just said what the heck and painted the rest. Its OK b/c you really only see the blue.
The OF I used a combo square at the depth I wanted the box. Traced the outline on the back and taped everything off. Laid the tank on its back and put down the bead of sili. Once it was adjusted where I want it I put a board and some bricks to hold it down and let it dry overnight.

well the paint looks good to me, its a pic but still looks good. also i sprayed several lite coats of spray paint on the back of my tank. got most to cover then just rolled black paint on top of that. however it as over 100 degrees in jersey when i did this. add the fact that my back yard is the beach and drying was done in no time.

clown hope you dont mind that were chatting on your thread, but i will admit it is helping me on some decisions i was pondering for a 33L frag tank with a 20L sump. so i am getting good stuff here. cant wait to see how your wet run goes. just wondering did you use the same size drill bits for the DIY bulk heads as to a regular bulk head like tim.

Tim,
THAT IS SWEEEEET!.
I really like the weir dam OF. The background color is AWESOME!
I've been at the lake for a couple days. I got the 55 from clown101
. Gotta love freebies!
Let me be sure what you have there. 30x6x2.5 dam OF. 2 1in drains with 2 1 in returns at the top on the ends.
1.5 in C.L. with 2 1 in returns.
How are you planning to plumb all this in? Combine the drains?
Are you going to just use sponges to silence the drains?
What size return pump? And Cl pump?
Are you going to use any lockline etc. for dispersing the flow?

Well got the tank together and setup at home and filled it. I ended up having to drain it and sill up a leak in the 55gal. Now its up and running agian. All I have to do is get the base rock and live rock then start adding fish.
