It just says GFO Granduler Ferric Oxide...how do I find out if I ordered the right thing?

As long as it says ferric oxide and not ferric Iron - I am pretty sure the one you ordered is the right one.

Oh and I went and looked at the used hex tank...it was acrylic and badly scratched...Work I can't do, so no used hex for now.

Yes it does, right on the front lol granular ferric OXIDE. lol its fine. it says oxide not iron
I am pretty sure its the chem pure Elite that is the bad one. Peka uses the one you ordered. I did a search on SHorg.
