hey
i cant "okay" your shopping list or anything,
but from my experience so far and from other members.. its fairly hard to find the southdown sand. they say you can get it at home depot, but ive been to a few to check prices and cant find it.
as for the ro/di water unit-
i asked a lot of ?? about that yesterday and everyone highly recommended getting one, if you have the extra cash.
otherwise you can make several trips to the store to buy it for somewhere around .25 / gallon
im getting ready to set up a 55 and i'm going to get 2 maxi jets becuase thats what everyon told me
we're in the same boat because ive been asking the same questions as you, except i still dont have my tank yet

if you find the southdown at your home depot let me know
im just curious now as to who can find some and who cant, lol
i think im at the point now where i'll have to pay shipping costs for it and have someone buy it for me

southdown is the brand name of the sand everyone has told me to get, except they switched names to old castle
sorry if i confused you,
just do a search on southdown sand and read about that, but i'm pretty sure thats what you want to get..

so basically if i cant find southdown sand anyway, i can buy arganite (any brand) from the pet store at a higher price but it would still work.

I figure (well garf says anyways) I need about 175lb of sand for my 5" DSB in my 75gallon. Could I get mostly aragonite, like 100lbs, then do the rest with the live sand from swf.com?

I have checked on the sand from home depot.
They do no carry aragonite sand. They do carry play sand at 2.69 per lb. I would think that this is not the correct sand right?
Where else can i get argonite sand at beside the pet store?

I just wanted to know should i get a little live sand to to go with my argonite sand also?
Or should I just pump my brakes right there?
