Hi everyone i'm new to the boards,i've gotten some useful tips from here, anyway i'm somewhat new to the hobby,i did have a fish only tank about 20 years ago,but things have changed...ALOT since then, anyway my question is,were cycling a tank right now as of day 16 (Feb 28) the ammonia dropped to 0,i was cleaning the glass inside the tank..we had a big outbreak of diatom algae, but it cleared itself out,i was cleaning the glass and intake tubes etc getting rid of the algae on the glass,2 days later i did an ammonia test and we had a spike of between 1.0/2.0 in ammonia,i did nothing else to the tank cept the cleaning, could i have gotten this spike from the cleaning? also we cycled with Biozyme for the recommended 7 days, and i started to use it again as of yesterday.

I don't believe the two events are related. IMO it because the tank is immature and unstable. Just keep up with the water changes and it will settle down quickly.

You tank is in a state of Flux (and I don’t even know what that means) all we are saying is give nature a chance (sounds like a song) I am on a roll tonight

Alright thanks i kinda thought that was the case,i guess i was just goin by what happened with my last setup, when the ammonia dropped to 0 it stayed that way,so now that i've gotten this spike it concerned me somewhat.BTW Joe isnt Flux the stuff plumbers use on their pipes.....LOL...(wink)

just give the tank time... let nature take its course. dont add bs chemicals to speed it up... if u want the tank to cycle... use a clown about 2-3 weeks into the cycle... or a dmsel but ditch the damsel when finished lol
