Hi everyone! Just setup my first SW tank (50g Breeder). It's been cycling for 3 days now.. Bought some LR and would appreciate some help in IDing the hitchhikers in the pics below. (esp since I'm not sure what's good/bad)
I went through several pages of posts but could only get an idea on the tubes (3rd pic) and they appear to be small feather dusters..
Thanks!

My hydroids look just like yours. I just bought some rock about 2-3 days ago and received mine...Maybe we shop together. I've heard to take out the rock and burn them or smear with chalk paste? Have u tried something yet?

youve got some bubble algae in #2 also. other than that it looks like youve got some nice live rock.

I got my LR from a LFS, but if you're from MI then it may be possible..
I haven't tried anything yet. I heard the same thing as you for removal and also read that you can manually pull them off w/ tweezers.
There was a post on this forum that said they thrive on food. I may wait a week to see what happens since I'm cycling the tank. They may just die off..

i have a few small patches of hydroids on my rock and have never noticed them to bother anything. you may just want to leave them there if they arent causing any problems, as opposed to destroying your rock. they may even dissappear after your cycle, as you said.
if you do want to remove them, i would suggest scrubbing with a stiff brush or using tweezers to remove them. i have heard of people covering them with super glue or epoxy. boiling water might also work, but i would try everything possible before completely killing off your rock.

I'm thinking the same thing. Hopefully they go away after the cycle, but if they are still there and don't bother anything then I won't worry about them.
The LFS didn't mention anything to be concerned with when I got the LR from them, and so far it seems like they've been giving me good advice based on my own research.
