I considered budget and the place I was putting it. I wanted a 300 cube and settled for a 155 bowfront.

75 tall vs 75 long is a no-brainer. The limitation on fish for saltwater isn't water volume, it's space. A tall tank is better for animals that go up & down like seahorses. The long version would be far better for just about anything else and will actually accommodate more fish than the tall version. Much easier for rockscaping and working with corals.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I kind of figured Long would be the way to go. Now, to my other question, glass or acrylic? I know both have their pros & cons, but what do you all prefer?

Glass, has too many benefits. Acrylic is great if u go big bc u can basically get them made in any size

Yeah, for a 75 I would go glass. Acrylic has better clarity and some insulation properties but in a 75 those advantages are minimal.

Glass...you couldn't give me an acrylic display tank. They scratch, and coralline loves plastic, making it look horrible in no time.

thanks all! the largest tank I have been able to find locally (*****) has been 55 gallons..they do not carry anything bigger than that in-store. have any of you ever had any experience of ordering a tank online? if so, who did you shop with?

I had a local fish store order my 125 for me an I picked it up at the store. It was considerably cheaper than ordering it myself and having it shipped to my house. It is the shipping that will kill you.

Yep...ask them to order a larger tank, that's how I got mine... the mom and pop stores I think are much better then *****, they just want to sell what's on the floor, so ask for a manager if they try and tell you they can't..

The fish store I go to is not very local almost an hour drive but worth the drive. Most have distribution agreements with a couple of the big tank manufacturers like Marineland but don't have the space to stock them so they order them as needed. Nice thing is you can get a reef ready tank that is predrilled for a sump if that is the route you want to go.
