New wet/dry for sump

Anyone ever hear of sealife systems? I just ordered a Pro-Series wet/dry for a 300 gallon, comes with a protein skimmer, overflow and everything I need (but mag pump)
From what I am told this will act the same as a sump...I HOPE IT DOES...
I also ordered a mag18 to run it too. Should have it next weekend....hopefully this will solve some problems.

My friend I am looking at the Pro 300, which I believe, you ordered. A sump is basically just a chamber to house your protein skimmer (if placed in your sump) and return pump. If you look to the right side of the wet dry (skimmer on the left) you will see the chamber, which will hold your return pump. Or that is the only way I can see it will work unless they are planning on your piggy backing the pump on top of the skimmer pump. Do you have any detailed pics other then what is shown on line?
And YES your wet dry is a sump and filtration system

No, that is the only pic. BUT because of space issues, and the fact that I don't have a sump for my 225g, this unit was recommended to me. OH YEAH...It was also somewhat reasonably priced.

this is a smaller version of what I ordered...It's a Sea life pro-series 300, which is not the same as a pro....(i'm being told)

Yes that is the pic I saw also. Your return pump goes in the left chamber I would thing I am just not sure how they intend you to pipe the water to the wet dry from your DT but I am sure when you get it the members of the board myself included can work it out

It is going to come with an overflow that is not pictured. So supposedly Hoses go from the overflow to the wet dry....Again...LOL..this is what I am being told from my fish store friend (I told him find me something simple)...All I am supposed to have to get are the hoses to connect the two.

I have a similar set up,different maker. The hose from the over flow will go into or near the skimmer section. The return pump will go on the RIGHT side of that picture and up into your tank.

I thought that section on the right was for heaters and stuff like that?...I guess it's big enough for the mag pump too. Actually the one I am getting is 36" long, so I am guessing there is plenty of room

You will find that the blu sponge can get clogged with detrius and waste easily and should be cleaned frequently. If it were mine I would remove this sponge. cut out some egg crate and put there, and use cut to size 100 micron or 200 micron filter pads. They will clog and and need cleaning too but they will remove much finer particles much better and not effect the water flow as much and rinse easier. Good luck !

OK, after looking at the wet/dry sump better I realize that there looks to be a space above the bio balls for the filter pad. I would still remove the sponge though. I have the same sponge for mine but run without it. It tends to slowly clog and restrict water flow. It doesn't rinse out that good for cleaning. Its a pain in the but.

LOL...I hate foam stuff too....like you said they collect a lot of stuff and then are hard to clean...I like disposable filters, but know that isn't always practicle

I am just starting my first SW tank, set it up on Tuesday. It is a 125g and I am using a SeaLife 200 filter. I am attaching pictures of the setup. The overflow drains into the skimmer chamber, through filter sponge, bio-balls through sponge and return pump. My heater is underneath the bio-ball chamber. Can't tell you how good it is just yet but it was pretty easy to set up. Hope this helps!

Get rid of that blue filter pad above the bio balls. get 100 or 200 micron filter pads ( cut to size type ). They will remove a massive amount more of finer detrius and waste. Once you see how much they remove and compare it against that filter, you'll never use that filter again. Good looking tank.

Thanks for the info, the guy at the LFS gave this to me to use. I will definitely try the filter pads you have recommended.
Thanks!
