What temp do you keep your tank?
Can you post a pic of your tank?
Was the tank a running tank when it was giving to you?
Can you post a pic of the sump?
If you add a light to the sump you can keep the cheato in there and the tang wont eat it.

Just looked, it is at 82. I live in Florida, keep the air on 75, but I am sure that the lights have something to do with the temp. No pics, camera broke on our last vacation.
I have had the tank for several years but only recently bought an anonome, and I am trying my best to keep the nitrates down so that it won't die. It was not really up and running when given to me. It had been torn down about two or three days, still had the sand, and the rocks, sand had some water to keep it alive, filled it as soon as I got it.

Well clams wont work for you as the temp is too high from what was posted. I know nothing of that trick.
Has the nitrates issue gone on forever? Or just since the aneonome? What I thought was this has gone on since you had the tank but, with your last statement.....I am now thinking it is since your purchase of the anonome.

I believe it has been going on forever, had a real bad hair algae problem, kept fighting that , not knowing what caused that, finally took some water in and found out that I had real bad nitrates, I did not have a kit, hence I do now, I started many water changes, which in turn took care of that problem, everything checked out perfect. Bought the anonome, hence, water seemed to spike, found out, I wasn't doing the test properly, the water tested out in the deep deep red, started many more water changes, now it goes between the 5 to 20 range, just don't want the anonome to die. Algae is coming back again also.
I don't think it usually runs that hot, usually have the ceiling fan on, it was also off, but then again, you don't want to chance killing 10 clams at one time.

Yes you are right about the HA. Excess nutrients will bring it on. Are you running a skimmer or anything else beshides the bioballs?
I thought I read somewhere that anemone's will dirty up the tanks water. I am not sure why but you need a real good export system if I am correct.
Anybody else want to confirm or deni this????

I guess I could, what, just cross one over the top of sump, probably need a piece of plastic to keep it dry. I have been already thinking about that.

If you can, then you can add the cheato to the sump and it will be safe. then you will get the export and be able to trim it. Maybe even sell it to somone. Most likley it will go in the trash tho.

Yes the cause would be the best here.
I think tho if some sort of export is implemented soon enough and powerfull enough then the source will become depleted and all will be good.
You know osmiosis.
By the way I was just flipping you, you know what.
