I've been thinking about starting a SW tank for about 6 months now, and i need help. i have no idea what i'm doing, and don't exactly trust the guy at the fish store, he's in a business to make money, and is going to sell me whatever he can get me to buy. Can someone just tell me where to start, i'm completely lost..

Hi Kattebury,
First off, Welcome to the board. Might I suggest that you sit back for a couple of weeks and just read some of the posts. Pay special attention to the New Hobbyist forum, and Equipment forum. These will give you a good place to start by letting you know what to buy and what not to buy. As you have questions, make sure that you ask them. The people in this forum are very helpful and friendly. You may also want to use the search feature to search on topics that you need information on. I think the one piece of advice I will give you is that you must have patience with this hobby. It is not like freshwater fish. Take your time and it will pay off. Good Luck. Scott

Everyone on this board would love to help you, but you need to delve into the hobby a little before we can help you. I would definitely purchase the book The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner and read the beginning, where it explains how you would go about setting up an aquarium, what you need to get, and the different type of equipment. Once you understand it a little, post any questions you may have because then it will be a lot easier to help you. Reading the book is the easiest way to get into the hobby because it lays everything you need to know right in front of you and like I said, if you don't understand a certain thing, that's where we come in handy.
Good luck, and feel free to post any of your questions!
