I bought a plate online. I swore I would never get another after mine only lasted 6 months.Well the second day the tenacles were disapearing on one side . now it is almost dead and I was told sorry its past the gaurantee period even though it started dieing after the second day. I think the water got too cold during delivery. another 40 bucks down the drain.NEVER AGAIN

I'd like to now where you got it also....I have ordered from SWF severale times now and have always had really good luck. Or just a good product. I was alittle let down with the florida live rock though......not much on it.

I would rather not say where I got it from.I have placed several orders from them with great luck and I dont want to bash them. They always made good on their product when I had other stuff die,but my point is that the plate dies slowly and not in the gaurantee period. But I would suggest not getting Plate corals.

I just want to add that Long Tentacle Plate corals are many time more difficult that short Tentacle Plates.

Thanks, but no more for me. The first day it was a beautiful green and fully opened and about 5" . What a shame.

Did you try a localized feeding? Put some frozen shimp or something in a blender. Then introduce it around the plate with a turkey baster.
I hate to give up.

i had to go threw 5 till i got 2 that made it same problem they would slowly start to recede they don't ship well and if they get bumped they die very easy. my 2 have been in the tanks over a year and the one in the tank with the calcium reactor has doubled in size.you have to be very careful moving them seem like if you touch them anywhere but on the bottom you will have problems

you need to watch out for sand on those guys too. if you have any critters or Powerheads that are throwing even the slightest bit of sand on that guy, he will die pretty quick.

So are you saying that plate corals should'nt be put on the bottom? Cause I have one for about a week now on the sand bottom with occasioanl sand on it, should I move it?

I did try to feed it but it wouldnt accept food. The hermits are feasting on the part that is receded.I truly believe it suffered during shipping because the water was cold.I ordered some stuff for my nephews tank and the fire red shrimp and snails and hermits lived but an angel was dead ( which they are making good on)I e-mailed them immediatly about the dead angel, but the coral didnt show signs for a couple of days. Then the weekend came and the gaurantee period was up.

no, most people put them on the SB. I guess what I am getting at is that the majority of the time those guys only last about 6 months. I'll never own one.

I've got to dispute the staement in regard to sand...I've had a short tentacle plate for nearly two years now and during that entire time I've had a beast of a tomato clown(aka "tommy the landscaping tomato") that is always disturbing the top layer of my sand and getting lots of it on my plate. Tommy has hosted with this coral for about 18 months...and the plate continues to thrive. There have been times when about half the plate is covered with sand...and within a few hours the sand is gone. I believe the plate actually removes it.
My impression is that they are very much like a fox coral in that once there is significant tissue damage and/or recession they are a lost cause. I located one from a LFS that I trust and I did all I could to insure there was no tissue damage or recession...same as I did when I was searching for a fox coral. I've managed to keep both for well over a year each...but I did look for healthy specimans for a very long time.
