Not sure what this is!

Not really sure what to make of this. My Tang has these black spots all over it. At first, I thought "Black Ich", but after research, it appears that black is the same size as white just different color. These spots are much larger than Ich that I have seen pictures of. Anybody have any ideas/suggestions.
I will try to get better pictures tonight and post again tomorrow.
Thanks,
Jim

I'm not sure but it's unfortunate. This is why I don't mess with tangs cause they are prone to disease.
And I don't think I've seen one that I don't like.

I'm no disease guru but isn't that a desjardini tang ? I'm sure Beth will want to know about it and how long you have had it including tank paramiters and specs, also what the diet has been for this fish. Are you feeding it algae like sushi nori?

Those spots almost looks to large, and brownish for black ich. I thing flukes is a good guess. Can you tell if those are bumps? Any signs on other fish? More details.

No signs of this on any other fish. I had him in a QT tank for about 3 weeks and everything looked good. Four days after putting into my main, these spots started appearing.
I was going to try to get better pictures last night, but when I got home from work the spots were really hard to see, so I kenw that I would never get a good picture. I took a look this morning and the spots were back but not as bad as before. I will get a better look later and post.
Any other info that could help?

What are the water conditions in your display tank? Is he rubbing against any corals, LR?

Every now and again he rubs against a rock, but it does not happen that often.
The tank is a 240g FOWLR. Tank is stocked: Fish (Sargassum Trigger, Black Durgeon Trigger, Niger Trigger, Sea Goblin, Vlamingi Tang, Unicorn Tang, Yellow Tang, Green Wolf "Eel", Miniata Grouper, Lion and Green Bird Wrasse), 300# Live Rock, Inverts(Snails, Crabs, Sea stars). The largest fish is about 6 inches long. Just waiting on our move before jumping to a 540g.
Ammonia - 0 ppm, nitrite - 0 ppm, nitrate - ~10 ppm, pH - 8.2, temp - 78 deg, salinity - 1.022

Did you say this happened 4 days after moving him from the QT to the main tank? It sounds like you have been doing qt for awhile and realize you must raise salinity very slowly in the qt to match that of the main tank before transferring the fish... Your main tank salinity is low though, so its not likely a salintiy "shock".

Well, I have seen fish with those spots come up here and we have done some guessing, ruling out bad water, environment, etc. I wonder what would happen if he went back into the QT? Do you notice him getting into corals, or anything like that?

Hi Jim,
I know this is going a while back, but can you tell me what you tried and what the result was. I have this exact fish, with these exact symptoms. They are brown spots, definately to big to be ich. Thanks.
