Thanks for the detailed reply. LOL...Do you think maybe you were stressed by the sick seahorse and got the cold? All kidding aside, the conditions you mentioned make good sense, and it also seems that no matter what, those situations would always apply when adding new horses to the tank. I think I will just be happy with the healthy ones I have and not rock the boat. I already have 4 horses in the 56g, you only had 1.

Yeah......LOL you should know by now that I like to talk. Well, write. I'm actually pretty quiet in real life.
LOL...Actually I was complimenting you, lots of times I land up still in ther dark after something is explained, I understood what you were saying with no problem at all.
My little cyano problem turns out not to be cyano after all. It is a red maco algae that makes little calcified shelves

Very interesting! I'd like to see more pictures of that if you can!
Well, the stand has been progressing slowly. The sleeve is done, the canopy is done (but needs trimmed), and the frame for the side cabinet is done but not skinned. I should be able to skin it this week, if work lets me free earlier than 7pm as has been the norm lately.

I will try and get some more pictures tomorrow...the shelves are getting larger, they are hard little scales or mushrooms and bright, bright red...they start off like red dots. I thought it was cyano at first.
I really like the canopy being nice and tall like that...it's a good look.

Thanks, it's getting there slowly. Last night was another 7pm night, so no work could be done -- since my place is small, it wouldn't be fair to the neighbors to run power tools after dark. I pretty much have an hour, two tops, of work like this after I get home on good days. Maybe today will be lucky.

Update on the stand:

Couple things. This is actually the reverse of the setup as it will be seen in the bedroom -- the small box will be to the left of the tank. The vase you see here IS the one we're planning to keep near the aquarium. I still have to add the corner trim to the main sleeve, the trim around the canopy, and the final removable top for the small box. Final top will either be a piece of 1/2 inch furniture grade plywood with quarter round edging (the simple, clean look) or possibly a piece of frosted plexiglass with lights underneath for a glowing top look. I also need to add a computer fan into the top of the box to help with the halide heat. Right now my tank temp is 73 during the day, and 70 at night. I'd like to see that down to 70 during the day if it's possible. After that it will be painted white, and the possible cherry blossom artwork can be hand painted after the tank has moved.
I was very pleased with the way the small cabinet holds and hides the topoff container. I found a 12-outlet surge protector that should handle most of the electrical needs for the tank, and it's already mounted inside the cabinet also. I mounted the electrical unit high on one side, and I added a splash guard to partition off the electrical side from the topoff water side just in case of any mishaps. The goal is to get that Cthulhu-spawn tangle of cords you see on the left tamed and hidden in the cabinet, so the final product is as clean-lined as an aquarium can be.
At my current rate of progress I should be able to get painting started sometime this week, and hopefully move the tank on Monday after Christmas!

Thanks....me neither! Here's one more pic from this morning:

The final trim is on the main sleeve and canopy. The smaller cabinet received a different kind of corner trim. I'm not sure if I like it, but I'll keep it until everything is painted and the final cabinet top is added.
I'm actually a little disappointed with my work on the canopy. This is the third canopy I've built, and to be honest it's the least professional. I don't know if I was feeling too confident about it, having done these before, or if I was just asleep at the wheel when I was measuring. Whatever the reason, this canopy is just a little too sloppy for my tastes -- a couple gaps, a non-square side panel, and because of little things like this the folding front doesn't sit 100% true. Yes, I know that I'll probably be the only one to see it (unless I invite some of our carpenter tank-keepers over to my house; they'll see it right away), but I'm still a little disappointed with the way I built this. A new canopy might be in the cards in about a year....but I really have a lot of other projects on the table first, so this one will have to do for the time being.

Well...tell you what, just send me that whole canopy and the cabinet that doesn't quite match...because I think it's beautiful. I can't wait to see it painted and the tank up and running.
I read once that the Persians purposefully make a flaw in their carpets (they are handmade and all have a flaw somewhere)...because only G-d is allowed to be perfect. It's as good an excuse as I have ever read...LOL...feel free to use it, who could argue?

Well, you can tell my little iceprobe is dead. Heat is climbing to 76-77 when the MH is on, and I've got some serious algae growth going on. Cyano in the back, green stuff on the glass.

Same to you. We're packing up to go to my brother in law's house for our "main" Hanukkah party tonight, then a-schlepping we will go further up the coast to Rockledge, FL, to visit with my Mom and celebrate Christmas ay with her. Gonna be a fun couple of days - hope it is for everyone else!

Back from the Holidaze early this am. I dropped the wife off at work and had a very short period at the office this morning myself, then I found myself with a free day...a rare treat, let me tell you! So, after stopping by the LFS for water (at which point a new red chalice just "fell" into the bag), I stopped at the hardware store for some white cabinet grade satin paint. First coat has been applied tonight, second coat will go on in the morning. I just finished a 10g water change also. I'm getting a lot of cyano on the sand in the back corners of the tank. I'm sure the water temp is helping add fuel to the cyano bloom, but so far it's manageable.I just have to make sure to blow off my pipe organ daily - those buggers are very pretty, but delicate.
Once again I want to send a thanks out to a board member here. A certain lady friend of all of ours with a preoccupation for felines has graciously offered to sell me her chiller - including all the hardware a chiller doesn't usually come with - for a very fair price. A huge thanks for Meowzer for helping out in my time of need. Also (it has to be said) an equally huge thanks to my darling bride who, when informed that the iceprobe broke on the tank, only rolled her eyes a little and said "you'd better get a new one.....just make sure it can stay in the stand."
Of course, she's spending $150 of her gift $$ on stuff from Teavana right now, so I'm looking the other way on that score as well.

Too tired tonight. Will post some pics tomorrow after I figure out the coral placement.
