I just got a pair of preliminary sketches back from Nate Wilson for the seahorse watercolor he's doing. WOW. I don't think I'm allowed to show them (they're rough sketches only) but I can't wait to see the finished project!!

LOL yeah, it's based off of the WC horse back when she had all her cirri. But it's not like an identical painting from a picture....I asked him to take the base picture and just go crazy with it. The prelim sketch has more cirri and a slightly different shape to the body. Can't wait to see the finished product.

You will have to post a picture...it sounds wonderful...where were you planning to hang it?

One of two places. As you come up the stairs I have an angled wall that's fairly large right at the top of the stair. It's either going to go there (with it being viewable form the office as well), or it's going to go on the hallway wall leading into the great room. The frelling breakerbox is right there on that wall, and I need something to cover that great big steel-grey eyesore.
He sent me some pics of the progress today. They have his watermark on them, so I feel comfortable sharing one with you guys. I reduced it in quality a little as well. Not to sound pithy, but the amateur sculptor in me knows the irritation involved with a piece of artwork being "borrowed" for use without permission. I still see some of "my" models being paraded around ebay from time to time....and I haven't picked up a silicone mold in years now.
ANYway.....I digress. Take a look......

OMG...It's beautiful just like it is...Put it at the top of the stairs where you can see it from the office...the grey box eyesore was placed in the most inconspicuous place they could put it....and you don't want your painting there. I always loved the half done art...it shows what it was before the color. When that is finished it will be truely breathtaking! What is he charging you and LOL...depending on the answer....will he do one for me?

LOL, I've got all your answers at my work email (which I try very hard never to look at in the evening) so I'll PM you the details tomorrow. As this is a no-sell site, I don't think I should discuss prices, etc here. Rest assured though that it is VERY reasonable....I'm 2 paychecks up from poor, remember? Ask Theresa about the POS van I drive!

I wish those house designers put the darned electrical box in an inconspicuous place! It's an eyesore all right, and it's right in the hallway as you leave the kitchen and walk to the living room area. You can't miss it....you see it EVERY day. I do need to find something to cover it, but I don't think the horse is the right piece. I want it to have more impact, and more important...I want to be able to see it from the office when I'm sprawled on the couch with a book. We'll see. I'm very picky about what I put on the walls, and the Wife is even more so. So far we just have three pieces of art up: the asian blossoms in the bedroom, another trio piece of flowers in a sepia tone in the living room, and a cool blue pen piece of Disney's Ariel from the Little Mermaid in the office. Oh - and a piece of stained glass my grandparents made of two dolphins swimming underwater. We need some more pieces here and there, but we have to REALLY love them.
Tank is doing all right. I still don't like how the cyano is creeping up. I just bought 10 gallons of saltwater today to do another decent water change this week. Rainford's goby is peeking out every once in a while, but he seems to be staying in his hole most of the time. Ugh...just what I needed...another animal that HIDES.

Is something picking on it? My little hectors goby is out all the time, your rainford goby seems to be the same critter with different colors.

LOL...I decorate with the grandchildrens pictures all over the house. I have one nice art piece hanging, a signed Lithograph of 2 leopards that I have had for ages, since before Dan an I purchased our house in Wisconsin 12 years ago. It's beautiful, but it's lonely. I do have my woodburnings hanging...but that's my stuff.

Just the horses and the mandarins. The young female horses are always playing, and the older male and original female are usually hitched somewhere, only traveling to hunt amphipods and of course during dinnertime. The Mandarins are very nonagressive, and I've seen the goby out and swimming along with the female mandarin before.
I suppose I should amend that statement. The goby is only hiding when *I'm* near. If I'm in the bed and laying still, I can see him swimming around. Minute I get up and walk toward the tank....wham....back in the hole.
I suppose to him I must be some towering monstrosity of a sea-demon, up from the abyss to snack on little brightly colored fishes.

LOL...You have such an imagination. My fish in the 90g were shy as well, that's why I could never get good fish pictures, I could only admire them from afar. What I find just a little creepy, is that they can see us, and they watch us like we watch them. Sometimes I will be online at the computer and look over at the horse tank and the female is perched in the corner watching me.

I just got word from Nate that the photo was done. He included a preview in the email.
Holy crap on a cracker. I can't wait to show it off. I'm scrambling to get my pennies together for the second half of the payment...I want this thing in my house ASAP. And no, I don't want to post the finished preview here just yet...I'll post the final product when it's framed and on the wall.

OK, I lied. I asked permission, and Nate said it was fine to show the watermarked "final" on the forum. So.....here she is!

I can barely begin to tell you how happy I am with this. The colors are stunning, and I love how the gorgonian starts out bold on the bottom and fades into the background to draw your eye towards the horse. I really feel like he hit a home run with this. His email address is natewilsongraphics@gmail.com if anyone wants to ask him any questions. I'll post another pic when it's home and framed.
PS...to see a nice size picture of her, right click the image and select open in a new tab.

Maybe it's just me...I liked it better half done. Don't take that wrong, I mentioned before that I liked half done paintings because of the effect. He did do a nice job on the gorgoniam fading it out like that. I love the head. Most important...you are delighted and happy and it doesn't get any better than that. Be sure to post a picture after it is hung up.
